Time for an upgrade

@gazaman77 I was a little too slow there, but I see that all your questions have already been answered

S9 is without baro and cheap like chips compared to S9 baro that gives accurate altitude readings and has storm alarmThanks mate, I was more concerned as to why the baro 9 lime was cheaper than say the baro 9 black. Was wondering if it was missing any features etc. Im hoping itās just because of the band then Iāll just swap it out at some point.
Cheers

My S9 Baro turned up today and first impressions are good.
I think my biggest disappointment is the volume of the tone. I would have preferred the option to turn it up but itās not a biggy and I can live with it.
The quality of the display is far better than I expected and I really like the look and feel of the watch.
Just wondering if I should get a screen protector now. -
@gazaman77 no screen protector needed. Mine is over a year old and I am rough.
-
Thanks @Brad_Olwin thatās good to know. Iāll not bother getting one then.
After a full day wearing it, one thing I have noticed is the step counter seems very sensitive. It certainly tracks more steps than my previous watches, sometimes counting 50% more than actual.
I really only use steps as a comparison from one day to another though so as long as itās consistently out, itāll be fine. -
@gazaman77 I think you will find recovery time works fairly well. Once you accumulate some time, your daily activity is added there too. I agree, the steps are a bit sensitive but I do not pay attention to steps anyway.
-
@Brad_Olwin thanks mate. I assume you mean recovery after an exercise.
I really donāt understand the stress and recovery screen to be honest. Iāve looked at some articles and it states that while ever you are relaxing etc then the bar would show in colour as you are ārecoveringā your resources. Yet currently my status is āinactiveā and the bar is still grey and not colour.
Does anyone have a dummies guide to this feature
Thanks

@gazaman77 I have just sold my Polar Vantage V (which is not exactly Grit X) but similar and return to my Spartan Sport. Why?
- Navigation
- No route editor (need to use 3rd party tool and import)
- No altitude profile (at least I have not found it on VV)
- Route guidance itās simply a joke (bad one)
- Just 4 fields
- Not so well integrated ecosystem
- Problems with Strava segments sync
- Running Power is always 70W higher than my Stryd
(ahh, but I keep the awesome Polar H10 band)
I hope this helps

I have used both. Both are amazing. I am planning, like you, to buy a Suunto 9 Baro, but the Polar Grit X is one other watch I am looking at. I am still undecided about the Suunto 9 but I know the guy who wrote these Suunto 9 Baro review and Polar Grit X review and he was also torn between which one to go for as they are both so goodā¦
In terms of features, they are pretty well matched. I would suggest, if can, to find a place that sells these watches and go and check them out. I think in the end it will all come down to looks as featurewise they are very similarā¦ One has something over the other and vice-versa but in the grand scheme of things, they are quite evenly matched,

@gazaman77 the storm alert works, but in my experience is good with storms coming when low pressure sets, not just with rain. If a barometer could predict rain on its own, we would not need to spend millions on forecasts
-
It usually works with sudden storm. If you can see it coming, the alarm doesnāt alarm you
-
The thunder storm was about an hour and a half/2 hours ago
-
@gazaman77
There is not a huge drop in pressure, so the watch doesnāt trigger the alarm
As your best friend say : https://www.suunto.com/en-gb/Support/Product-support/suunto_9/suunto_9/valid-for-barometer-version-only/storm-alarm/ -
@sartoric
Maybe Iām reading this incorrectly but from my watch reading, the pressure has only risen within the last 4 or so hours!..no drop at all?!? -
@gazaman77 said in Time for an upgrade:
as only risen within the last 4
maybe the las 1,5 / 2 hours ā¦ anyway, no drop, so no alarm.
Did you record an activity or used the gps ? that could be due to a fix to the altitude
-
@sartoric
or inside a climate controlled building? -
No I wasnāt doing an activity or anything. My watch was in the house. Is that the issueā¦does it need to be outside? I understand the whole point of it is to alert you if your out and about but I assumed it would still work indoors like my old ambit.
-
@gazaman77 mine also worked indoor in the past, but for big storms, i.e. those that get names.
