Calorie Estimate Very Low for Cycling Activity
-
My commute to school is around 30min. I’m not a huge fanatic about whether the calorie estimate my watch gives me is super accurate - I know its just an estimate. But I noticed that several of my rides the estimate was VERY low for what I would think it should be.
Another question - how can you resize images you upload? Or make sure they dont take up huge amounts of screen space???Here’s an example of one that I think is fair
And heres a few clips from Suunto App that I think are wayyyyyy too low

I think if you don’t use heartrate its always going to be wrong with cycling.
That is because you could for example not putting any effort cycling with a ebike etc

Well I have opposite results - same Polar H7 heartrate sensor, S9B via bluetooth, Polar V800 via 5kHz - indoor cycling.
For 37 minutes activity calories:
Suunto 9 Baro - 646 kCal,
Polar V800 - 489 kCalSame is for distance tracking outside. I trust Polar more in this situation (they started the whole HR thing), same as GPS track (for sure more accurate chipset than this Sony’s “battery saver”) and distance accuracy.
I don’t get why there is a such difference in less than 40 minutes.
S9 says Active calories which would exclude BMR calories. In longer activity the difference would be even more dramatic. The same heartrate (rest/max) values and zones, weight. Both watches mounted on a bar.
Heartrate graphs identical, it is the algorithm how 2 watches interpret and calculate those burnt calories. Both profiles - indoor cycling.Suunto 9 seems just like an expensive (overpriced) shiny toy, while V800 is a useful tool. Just my 2 cents.
And S9 still adds too many steps during the day, it gives me a few thousand steps extra.I also remembered one more thing during indoor cycling. I have blinds half closed for the sun/heat and visibility in a bit dim room on V800 is excellent (black with white values, also outside with just a little surrounding light), on S9 almost none. No way to see the numbers without backlight. Tried black and white background, white is worse.
I know they have different LCDs, but this is bad from Suunto. I can take a picture of 2 side by side in dim environment and post it somewhere here. I didn’t expect that when I bought the watch. -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos But 32kcals? Strava doesn’t do that with their mobile app tracker. I dont have experience with Garmin/Polar. But I never had that with my Ambit3 Vertical before my new S9B
