Watch Face External Dial Explanation

Hi,
Is anyone able to help me understand what the outer ring of this watch face represents?
And how about the small indicator that occasionally appears by one of the numbers along the outside (unfortunately not shown in this picture). If no one knows what I’m talking about I can try and get another picture when it appears again.

The bar is sunrise to sunset. The pointer is the current time. Very helpful for a quick glance when you are hoofing it to camp (or looking for one) at the end of a long day. The bar fades at dawn/dusk times. And you don’t see the bar because you took the picture at night.
