Syncing problems Ambit3 with iPhone11

@Klas-Axgärde nope. Protocols are agreed between parties and can’t be changed unilaterally. If you want to improve things, you work on new versions of standards and protocols, don’t just go your way because you’re bigger than the others.

@isazi maybe Suunto doesn’t care about Apple users, seeing that the Suunto 7 has an android operating system and Google Play. Just a conspiracy, and
maybe goes both ways. Either way I don’t care who is to blame between these companies. I purchased a product that I expect to work properly, regardless of which phone I have, and getting no answer is worse than them providing an answer that may not be in my favour. A response of some sort would be nice, even if it’s to say “sorry your product will no longer work with newer technology” (I.e. apps and/or phones). -
@Tom-H-Edwards thanks for the reply, April/May is a long time to wait which means it must be a serious bug. I work with safety software systems for railways and serious bugs can be fixed way quicker than that with all the safety approvals that a sports watch doesn’t need. Suunto seem to be going new flashy watches as style over substance but the reality is without the proper software their value evaporates. I wonder if Suunto are overstretched by the competition? As a diver who relies on my Eon Steel and Zoop for safety this is a big concern. Last week in Raja Ampat a diver was about to send his Eon Core back for a 5th time due to incorrect depth measurement. I am starting to wonder whether I should move away from Suunto. Suunto need to seriously up their game.

ouf , I am creating a bug about this…
Again…
I am in contact with the developers, no higher level of support than me
Thanks! Hopefully this will escalate the issue and get it fixed sooner rather than later. I guess we should ask the question, is there anyone out there with an iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 pro that HAS been able to sync moves? Trying to figure out if this is an issue for every iPhone 11/ambit 3 user or just random individuals.
I know you are trying to help, but I (and many other users) have tried the Forget/Forget/Unpair/Pair solution several times without any success. So I think this is a deeper issue than the pairing. I am able to get my watch to sync without any moves, but as soon as I log a move and try to sync it fails.

@Cookiemonster
I’m not so sure it’s a serious bug, it may just be that Suunto isn’t staffed to handle it in a timely fashion. From what we’ve seen from them in the last 2+ ish years since the Spartan release, to transitioning from MC to SA, to branching out to the S series product line, to now this addition of S7 Wear OS line. That means they are dealing with now what are at least 3-4+ active product lines and 1.5 to 2 app/syncing platforms. I suspect (no proof) that they are moving from ‘get this out’ to ‘get that out’ with all hands on deck. I might be wrong, but this all seems like not enough staff to handle the multiple transitions and product releases they have bitten off and be able to also squash bugs in a timely fashion. What used to be 2, 3, 4 watch firmware and feature releases per year is now much less frequent. -
After the new APP release and IOS update, connection to the watch seems to work better (well updated 3 hours ago). So far all the syncs have failed (4/5 activities).
Also because the activity syncing fails, the watch is not abel to pick up new settings like a different time. Would be great to get the watch to match my current timezone.
I did sync those activities to Movescount via laptop and Moveslink. Suunto app considers them to be not synced.
My data is also kind of fucked up now that I had to use Moveslink to get activities downloaded somewhere… Movescount activities are not in Suunto app. A bit afraid to use the mass import as it doubled my activities on the previous import. Well all should be in Strava

@AinaVanteilla nothing new! I am resigned to the fact that it may never work the way it used to.
-
@JohanT I can totally identify with your frustrations While I had some success with my Ambit 3 Peak Bluetooth sync on IOS (iPhone 8 ) its nothing more than hit-and-miss, sketchy, unreliable. Current solution is: cable sync on Mac to Movescount, view activities in SportsTracker app (same database, same login as SA). Have ditched SA until it is worthy of a spot on my home screen. Maybe the Ambit 3 just doesn’t do long distance relationships, and thrives on close physical contact. But seriously, I hope Suunto can sort their out; Ambit 3 is such a stellar—and relevant—watch in 2020.
-
@Alistair_d I agree. Yes, the Ambit3 doesn’t have all Gucci bells and whistles like the newer watches, but it still does the job for what I need it to do.

I am using an iPhone XS with an Ambit3 Peak for years and the data sync has always been very unstable. Since I have to use Suunto App the connection got even worse than it already was with Movescount App. Sometimes (about once a week) the watch loses the connection to the phone completely and has to be paired again. When I finished a move and the watch still has the connection to my phone it takes several hours for the sync to be finished. (I finished a 3 hours bike ride at 3pm, the sync still isn´t finished and its 6pm)
I am so frustrated and disappointed by the software quality of Suunto. I was confident that the bugs get fixed soon for years now but my patience is really coming to an end soon.I mean this is obviously the official Suunto Forum and there are a lot of users that have issues syncing moves. There is no new statement regarding this issue from the Suunto support for 4 weeks now.
I am wondering how a company with this attitude regarding customer support can survive.
I am no software developer but I really can´t imagine that its rocket science to figure out what exactly the problem is and to communicate it to the users. There are so many cheap gadgets that exchange data with my phone and Suunto obviously is not capable of even finding the problem.
The Ambit 3 is such a reliable watch that offers everything I need but the Suunto Software is a complete mess that destroys the whole experience. If my english was a little better I´d find a more appropriate description for what I think about it.

I fully agree with you! It’s very unbeliveble such a behaviour from this company. Now I’m using an iPhone 11Pro and it is not possible for me to syncronize activities from Ambit 3 Peak to Suunto app. The only chance is to connect my device to a PC using the cable. I can also add that in the past I used an iPhone 6 and the situation was the same having same problems.
-
@loasca Any Sulotion you receive? Thanks in Advance facing similar issue.
-
@Karki-Amrish still no solution
-
Same problem Ambit3 Peak and iPhone 11 Pro.
Paired OK
No sync activities
The latest update of frebrero does not solve the problem -
Still no news
This the “World Vertical Week” and for support is it the “World perfect support week” ? -
@pcarval To be fair to Suunto, “World Vertical Week” is going to have its ups and downs.
-
@entropia437 try kill other sync apps.
On ios 13 (iphone XR) I need to stop working polar flow in the background then it is starting to sync with Ambit 3 P. -
I don’t want to bore anyone by describing the synchronization problems I’ve had since the introduction of the Suunto app to replace Movescount. I just want to say that my activities are no longer downloaded from the Ambit 3 Peak to the Suunto app; only using the cable and a computer can I back-up and analyze them with the Strava app.
I am really bewildered by the lack of sensitivity of this company that seems not to understand that nowadays it is essential not only to propose a state-of-the-art technology but also to give an adequate support to the customer. For this reason my choice will no longer fall on Suunto products when I have to replace my devices (a Suunto D6 and an Ambit 3 Peak). -
@Cthulhu
I saw that you’ve commented on a topic that is related to A3P sync to SA on an Iphone.
Could you please specify the details of the issues you observe together with what you have tried so far and what SW versions you are running for SA and phone OS?
I’m on android and hence not of much help here… but what I know is that Suunto is still developing and improving SA and especially the integration of A3P.
As long as there are still issues it will always help Suunto to send feedback and for sure it is not the final state as long as it is still buggish
