wish list, my suggestion

For correcting the altitude this is “fixed/done” The alttidue search is retried infinite times and is guided by GPS on the next to come firmware.
The only thing a user could do by correcting the altitude, is correcting it wrong.
To make this a bit more clear:
- When starting an activity there might be an altitude offset.
- During the activity the watch will try to correct (bump or lower) the altitude to the correct altitude (eg you started at 0 and actual altitude is 100m) this will be corrected.
- If the above fails due to bad signal it will be retried as many times as possible and will correct anadromicaly the data (all previous data).
- After the correction is done the watch looks to both barometric + GPS based altitudes and “continusly” calibrates and corrects the altitude for example due to pressure drifts, rain, some sensor issue, sensor blocking etc.
If #3 or #2 even correct with some wrong instant altitude of lets say 10m the point #4 will correct this in a couple of mins.
This will come to you in the next FW update.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos This fix is only for s9 watches? Does spartan have the same isuue?
-
@bbx100 Spartans work differently due to having a different chip. Spartans do not correct the altitude lets say depending to GPS error like the S9 does. They look at curves and straights of the altitude line and adjust both (GPS+ Baro altitude)
The Spartans fail tooo little , in sort their problem is very small compared to the s series. They can fail though if they dont have AGPS or the GPS reception is totally bad and for that there is no remedy, as even if one could try to correct the altitude it would be corrected wrongly if the GPS reception is bad.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I read somewhere on this forum that for spartans you could enter altitude manually before activity. I tried it, but it was overrun by fusedalti value which in my area is up to 10m off the actual altitude. So can we for spartan enter altitude manually and if yes how many minutes before the activity or as your post suggests it is set automatically by fusedalti whatever we enter?
-
@bbx100 I think manually setting before activity can help only when GPS is very bad and causes a problems to check initial altitude.
…but I am not an expert here

@bbx100 10m is a small error

@isazi said in wish list, my suggestion:
@Maryn my interpretation of point #2 from @Paolo-Grinzato is to manually trigger GPS updates to position when not using performance mode.
Absolutely correct, having gps fix every 1 or two minutes is great for battery but, it produces distance errors up to 10-15%.
So when walking slowly, for fun or in a steep mountain trail, giving a fix “on request” might be nice and give more accurate reading.
Maybe it’s not that important but… -
@Maryn @TELE-HO @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos @isazi
Yes, I see that during long distances, sometimes fused alti is not giving correct indications. Quite often precision is awesome, but now and then it’s not having 15-50m error. So, why not check/upate altitude while walking on a precise reference point, like a mountain pass, or a point where altitude is known.
Sometimes errors starts right after starting activity, setting the correct value manually doesn’t help because, sometimes, fused alti works not properly and there is no way to correct during activity, so after 5 mins of walking or riding with bike, I had 15meters or more, error that “confused” the fused alti for the entire activity. -
@Paolo-Grinzato
if you manually adjust alti within 30min before your activity you will deactivate fusedalti and will have more issues with correct alti values.
give fused alti some time before you judge. I never touch the alti settings and have reasonable values after let’s say 10min and throughout the entire activity -
My case is for Spartan, heard that chip is different, algo as well, but i face many times fusedalti which doesn’t correct initial alti at all. Can’t imagine my GPS reception is that bad each time, because my tracks are quite on the path.
It may never change, but i think there is something a bit bad in SSU algo, or just in the GPS quality threshold to allow fused alti to be triggered.
I can’t imagine, there is no 5/10min with enough good GPS for fused alti algo to see there is xx meters off. -
I already posted that suggestion, so you can vote.

It is not someting that I cannot live without, but I have it on previous watch (which does not have something like FusedAlti).
