Running power missing on S9 Baro with 2.9.42?
-
- Wrist computer: Suunto 9, firmware 2.9.42
- Power meter/foot pod: Stryd v2 (firmware 1.2.0), paired as foot pod
- Sport mode: default Running with Power sport mode
Problem description: no power in running mode (field displays --).
Full data is logged by the Stryd in its internal storage.
I’ve tried re-pairing the Stryd, which didn’t fix it. Is anyone else having this problem?
Things I haven’t tried:
- factory reset of the watch or Stryd
- rebooting the watch (I know, I know, hush)
-
Shouldn’t you pair the stryd as both foot and power pod?
-
Not according to Stryd:
“This will take you step-by-step on how to pair your new Stryd as a Foot Pod to your Suunto Spartan or Suunto 9 watch.
To pair with watch:
From the watch screen scroll down until you reach Settings & tap on the screen to select
Scroll to & select ‘Connectivity’
Scroll to & select ‘Pair Sensor’
Scroll to & select ‘Pair Foot Pod’
Shake the Stryd a little bit to activate and so your watch can find itSuunto Spartan and Suunto 9 watches have a native power field for running and it’s because of this you can pair the Stryd as a foot pod rather than a power pod (as you have to do for Ambit watches).“

@Ze-Stuart this is from last year on this forum:
https://forum.suunto.com/topic/1447/stryd-power-in-our-watches/5
-
@isazi that’s still accurate? Oh, dear.
I take it the guidance if one has a cycling power meter is to pair when swapping exercises? How frustrating.
-
@Ze-Stuart to be honest I don’t know, I’ve just been researching the forum because I recently ordered a Stryd (that is waiting for me in Europe for when I’ll be back from this assignment).
-
@isazi I’ll try turning it off and on again… it’s my first week with a Suunto in a while, and I’m sure it worked before.
@Brad_Olwin care to chime in?
-
I use Stryd with my S9 Baro connected to power pod because mine is not accurate for foot pod (or on auto calibrated with gps).
It works great.
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos perhaps the calibration factor will come with fw 2.10. -
Hi I also have the stryd.
Please pair it as :
pod
powerOn the activity set to search only for pods
That is my setup and in all my runs I have realtime power
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos thanks for confirming. Has it always been like this? I don’t remember having to swap between my Stryd and my bike’s power meter, but that was a while ago.
Are you aware of any plans to ‘fix’ it so that the Stryd will work for power when paired only as a foot pod, as Stryd suggest?
-
@Ze-Stuart not sure friend to be honest . I would assume pairing it only as a pod would have sent power as well. … But I tried it and didn’t work as well . Do you think its a bug ?
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos yes, given Stryd’s instructions, and the annoyance at having to swap between a bike power meter and a running power meter: it’d add a delay to a triathlete’s transition time!
-
@Ze-Stuart hmmm I just tested it. I removed stryd from the power pods (That said cycling poweR) and power is transmitting
-
Strange I think on the first run I tried didn’t work so that is why I paired it as power pod as well. Now it works with only footpod (getting power)
-
I have Stryd paired as Power pod and Food pod and this works well for me. I have power, cadence, distance from Stryd.
-
@Václav-Král I unpaired it now from power pod and it works See above
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I’ll turn it off and on again and see! Thanks for checking!
-
I have Stryd both last and previous version. When paired as foot pod to my S9B work like charm. No issues
-
All, if you want to use Stryd with power and still have cycling power, only pair as a footpod, you will get power. If autocalibrate is turned off all speed, distance and cadence data will come from Stryd. If autocalibrate is turned on then S9 will calibrate based on GPS, which I find more accurate. If you do not want any pace, distance or cadence coming from Stryd and only power then you pair only as a powerpod. This will require swapping out if you use a bike power meter. Hope this helps.

@Brad_Olwin succinct, thanks!
