Or like on the Polar Vantage something that detects the contact of the skin so that the 24/7 hr consumes less battery if the watch is not worn?
I’d like if it could be that, but on my Trainer, if I remove it and let it on a still surface without turning off 24/7 HR, I will see it flashing regularly…
Also the metal dot position close to the protruding HR does not make for good contact with the skin, unless you wear it so tight that the HR monitor digs into the skin… -
Suunto is the only company where the top end watch has less features (whether good or bad it is another discussion) than every other phone in its lineup (3,5).
Now, imagine they release s10 with those features… -
If you all have questions I can help answer them about Suunto 5 vs. Suunto 9.

Hi everyone
Hope that Suunto 5 wristband will work with Spartan Trainer (which is no longer available since several months, I fear the day when the wristband of my Trainer will break !)
-
@Brad_Olwin sure! Did you compare your training plan with the one that offer the watch?
-
@suzzlo The Training Plans on the watch are best, I think for individuals wanting to achieve better overall fitness and there are three options available. If one already trains more than 5-7h per week I do not know how effective the plans might be. For me, I think the plan could help me boost fitness in the short term but my training volume is very high (typically 14h-15h per week) and the plan does not tailor well for me as the plans volume is much lower. As I said before, if one is attempting to improve overall fitness the plans should work well.

So made in china after all? From Suunto official website

@Brad_Olwin could be good option for me… And proposed workouts are focused just on running, or there are stretching, core, bike, swim…? And always raw or more elaborated (intervals)?
I imagine they are based on HR, aren’t they?Thx!

@Brad_Olwin Hey I am also interested in training plans on the watch. So for someone who is occasional runner (cca 3 hours/week) and looking for some guidance to improve fitness, these plans are OK ? Can you define targets (e.g. run 10 km distance in certain period ) within training plans ? Can you compare these plans to other training plans from TP, Garmin, Polar ? Thank you for your thoughts.

@jsuarez why with the web unsatisfied? The product is sold without a web (and there are other watches sold like so)
Because many of the buyers might be long time Suunto customers. You cannot just erase their memories of having used a web frontend some time ago. Or simply because users expect that (e.g. that price level could justify that expectation).

I guess other watches mentioned above are Coros watches - that is the only major player I know that provides only mobile app interface.
But guess what one of top new feature requests by Coros users? They demand web interface too!

Personally I don’t think this would be a good upgrade from Ambit3 Peak

@jorgefd78
Perhaps they call it S7

To be honest suunto community. I have a feeling their philosophy is just to released new features with new watches, instead invest in old ‘spartan’ line… and firmware. I think it’s not a clear statement of suunto regarding new features that community desire. Like stress level, VO2 estimation, sleeping phases and others that you can be found here.

You mean Spartan is an old line?
I supposed they had already considered suunto 9 as old line. And Don’t forget the Spartan have got the s9 watchface as new feature .

I have a strong feeling that the5krunner did it on purpose. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

@zhang965 to be fair 245 is a direct competitor.

@Brad_Olwin Hi Brad, are there any hardware limitations in the suunto9 that prevent the extra features found on the suunto 5 being implemented on the 9? Is there any chance of us seeing some of these features rolling over with a firmware update at any stage? Alot of the these features don’t to be new, just better and more in depth implementation of what is available on the 9.
-
I don’t think there are any hardware limitations. It is just a firmware implementation.
