[S9] Pool swimming lap too sensitive
-
Would be nice to have little bit better algorithm for determining of end of lap.
E.g. I am swimming in 25m pool, unfortunately not always alone and some swimmers are blocking. When I just stop for second, pool is counted, then I finish pool and its counted again.
Determining algorithm should be able to fix that if I am using same swimming style and I ‘finish’ 25m in like 10seconds.
- Wait for stop to count pool lap
- If next pool lap (same swim style) + previous pool lap time (same swim style) is ~avg time of swim style -> merge those laps
- step 1 again
It should not happen to merge proper laps withing same swim style. Or it would be nice to have toggle to enable this behaviour.
WDYT?

Also to add, this can be handled in SuuntoApp and not in watches FW as App may be little bit more flexible to do those calculations

Hmmm I would do it a little differently. Why not use the compass to detect pool laps? If you’d average the compass data for a certain period, you would be able to detect a general difference between a pool lap in one, and a lap in the other direction.
Sure this could be handled on the watch, we had swim style detection on the ambit 3. Once you detect strokes, you can average the orientation over one stroke and compare that.I have to say, pool swimming is working quite well for me with the spartan, but maybe it’s a hint on how to improve it.

@michal-orlík this is probably not fully on topic, but I was wondering if you could please explain how to have the watch auto count your laps. Specifically, today i did some pool swimming i did perhaps 10-15 laps and the counter stayed on 1 all time.
Thank you in advance and sorry for the trivial questions, i have used Garmin for a very long time and the S9p is my first Suunto
