SAC Calculation for Dive Logs
-
When dives are synced from the EON Steel computer with tank pod, there is no possibility to enter the tank size used for the dive. This leads to a difference in the SAC calculated in the Suunto app and with the SAC given in DM5 where the correct tank size can be added.

I need to check this. Not familiar with Dive computers but I have promoted your query

Thanks!
Actually, I’ve done some manual calculations using a recent dive log and I’m not convinced the DM5 software is actually calculating it correctly either!
SAC should be as follows:
1] Air consumed in Bar * Tank Size in litres = total air consumed in Barl
2] Total air consumed in Barl / dive time in minues = air consumption rate in Barl/min
3] air consumption rate in Barl/min / pressure at average depth = SACMy latest log has the following values (consistant in DM5 and Suunto app):
Air consumed = 69 Bar
Dive Time = 34 min
Average Depth = 6m = pressure at average depth = 1.6 bar
Tank size = 12l (only in DM5)The correct calculation of SAC should therefore be:
((69 * 12) / 34) / 1.6 = 15.2 Barl/min
In DM5 the SAC is calculated as 12.5 barl/min
In Suunto app is calculated as 14.8 barl/min
Interestingly, in DM5 there is an different time given on the summary page (34min) and the Mixtures page which shows the SAC value (38min). Using this time instead of the summary dive time gives 13.6 barl/min which still doesn’t match either value.
