Looking at the features of the Suunto Run 2, am I the only one wondering what the point of a Race 2S/3S would be?

@runomatic I completely agree. I was thinking exactly the same thing. 😄

        Suunto Journey:
        9 Baro → 9 Peak Pro → Vertical Solar → Race → Race 2 → Run → Vertical 2+Suunto spark

@runomatic for sure more premium material (sapphire, titanium) and longer battery life in GPS mode.
Then the access to Suunto plus apps and Suunto plus guides (I’m not sure that Run OS have the possibility to import structured workouts from third party platforms, but correct me if I’m wrong).
Finally some other minor things (I believe), but right now I’m out of ideas 🙂

Suunto Race 1 and SuuntoApp on Android 13.

If the Run 2 doesn’t receive workouts from outside plataforms it’s a failure at start just like the Run. It’s an incomprehensible missing for a watch advertised for runners. And Suunto Plus is not an excuse because on the Run that feature seems to be intensionally blocked or the workouts created in the app wouldn’t be called Suunto Plus Guides.

              Some thoughts

              1. More robust case
              2. Larger capacity battery
              3. SuuntoPlus compatibility

              Maybes

              1. Sapphire glass?
              2. Flashlight?
              3. Larger 1.4" screen?

              Watch: Suunto Race S

I am interested in the interval training screens (customization options), font issues, and the like, but judging by the ZoneSense screen… ‘Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.’ It’s a laughable watch, especially considering that Coros has added maps to the Pace 4 (currently in beta).

@perfekt_tall how do you mean it’s a laughable watch? I’m very much looking forward to swap my Run1 for the Run2. I’ve been very happy with it but only really missing maps for the occasional detour through the trails.

What makes this watch laughable is that most likely, everything that wasn’t fixed in Run 1 will just carry over to Run 2.

From first YouTube reviews, it seems that the 4gb version is not going to have maps: is that correct? Because Suunto web page doesn’t seem to mention this anywhere

All Run 2 have offline maps. This is one of the main advantages over the legacy Run.
Suunto mentions it directly on the product page:

@runomatic at this point I am also wondering what the advantage of my Race 2 is, except bigger screen size. And I am also wondering if any of the new features ever come to Race 2. And I am also wondering what the logic of having multiple watch models with multiple OS version is. For example Coros has identical SW for all watches (except features which are not working on old watches). I assume if there is going to be a Race 3, it will feature the new OS. Which makes me wonder why this was not introduced in the R2 in the first place. I really like Suunto HW, but I have my beef with decisions regarding SW.

@OutdoorMan Race 2 advantages to Run 2 are from the top of my head:

                                            bigger screen
                                            premium materials like sapphire screen
a lot more battery run time
more sport modes (like kayaking - which makes a difference for me)

Regarding the software: I also do not know the reasoning behind the two operating systems. I would just not call it old and new, but better two different ones. I don’t see the Race/Vertical software being replaced soon.
