Heart Rate Zone is Wrong
-
Any idea where this is coming from and when it will be fixed?
Same watch and same sensor and no issues here.
Is the H10 battery OK? Is the chest strap worn out? -
@snow happy to hear that
Yes all good. Maybe sweat and dropouts might play a role in this but this still doesn’t explain why Suunto interprets that one signal in different ways. Btw. I had two runs since then and the error didn’t repeat. -
@muellersjens
Did you check again your previous activity in the app?
HR is computed in the backend and sometimes it doesn’t appear good initially (if appearing at all).
After this, what is saying your watch logbook for zones duration for this activity? Correct or same discrepancy? -
Hi,
I’ve noticed that something seems to be wrong with the HR zone data as well. On my Suunto Race watch, I have Zone 2 set to 103–125 bpm. Yesterday I went for a bike ride and intentionally stayed in Zone 2. However, my Suunto watch shows that I spent most of the ride in Zone 1, which is incorrect. On the other hand, Intervals.icu correctly shows that I spent most of the time in Zone 2.
I’m using a Garmin HRM 200 chest strap to measure my heart rate, but I don’t think that’s the issue. From what I can see, the problem is that the heart rate zones in the Suunto app are incorrect.
As I mentioned, I set my HR zones directly on the watch. Do I need to configure them somewhere else as well? I’ve only had the watch for about a week, so I’m still getting familiar with all its features.
Thanks!

@sunter do you have, by any chance, custom HR cycling zones on your watch?
-
Hi @isazi,
I set “Intensity zones” / “Default HR zones for all sports” according to upper image in intervals.icu.
“Intensity zones” / “Advanced zones” / “Running” - disabled
“Intensity zones” / “Advanced zones” / “Cycling” - disabled
-
@sunter for intervals.icu you set the zones there, so I cannot comment. For the discrepancy between Suunto App and watch, I see that your Z2 should be between 103 and 124 BPM and the app shows blue for that range instead. Is it still the case? If you check the activity in the logbook of the watch, what is the zone distribution?
-
Hi @isazi ,
I don’t have this activity in the watch logbook because I start my rides on my Hammerhead Karoo cycling computer, not on the Suunto watch. The activity is then synchronized to both Intervals.icu and Suunto.
In Intervals.icu, I can configure my HR zones manually, so they are displayed correctly for the activity.
For Suunto, as far as I know, HR zones can only be configured on the watch. I assumed those settings would also sync to the Suunto App, since I can’t find any HR zone settings in the app itself.
The issue, as you noticed, is that the Suunto App shows incorrect HR zones for the activity. I don’t know how to fix this, or if it is even possible to make the app use the correct HR zones for externally recorded activities. Do you know if there is any way to resolve this?
-
@sunter so this answers your question, the Karoo 2 does not share time in zones, so Suunto App computes it based on “standard” zones. I hope we will get zone settings from the app soon, until then, there is nothing you can do.

I went through several threads on the Suunto forum where users reported similar issues. I also found a similar thread where the user had contacted Hammerhead Support:
https://forum.suunto.com/topic/14741/undecided-for-a-new-bike-computer/49I also hope that Suunto will fix this issue as soon as possible and make it possible to configure HR zones properly in the app, with the settings syncing to the watch—or vice versa.
This is actually quite an important feature, so I’m surprised it hasn’t been implemented yet.
Is there any way to submit feature requests to the Suunto team? @isazi or could you pass this suggestion on, since it seems I’m clearly not the only one experiencing this issue or wishing for this feature?
-
@sunter as far as I know, setting the hr/power/pace zones via the app is/was a planned feature already. I have not seen it in beta so far, though.
-
@isazi Yeah, let’s hope they implement it as soon as possible.
