Suunto HR Belt unreliable with 9 Peak Pro since firmware update - anyone can confirm?
-
I stopped using my Suunto HR Belt after the last firmware update because I experienced several rides with strange readings and repeated connection problems.
Recently, I tried it again during a run. With the belt connected to my Suunto 9 Peak Pro, the watch either showed no heart-rate data at all, implausible values, or a value that appeared to be stuck even while I was walking.
The belt battery is shown as 100% both on the watch and in an iOS Bluetooth debugging app.
Because the readings looked so strange, I started recording with my Garmin Forerunner using its optical wrist sensor about 30 minutes into the run. I then stopped the activity on the 9 Peak Pro and connected the HR Belt to the Suunto App for the final part of the run, while the Garmin continued recording.
With the belt connected to the Suunto App, the readings looked much more plausible. The heart rate clearly decreased when I started walking. There still appeared to be one brief disconnection, but overall the values and their behaviour were much more realistic than with the 9 Peak Pro.
Today I gave it another try. I thoroughly applied electrode gel and waited until everything appeared to be connected correctly before starting. During the run, the heart-rate reading suddenly disappeared again. I ran up a steep slope, thinking that perhaps the signal was simply too weak at the lower intensity, but no heart rate appeared.
I stopped the activity, checked everything and started again. This time the heart rate became stuck at 97 bpm and did not increase, so I disconnected the belt and switched to the watch’s optical wrist sensor.
The HR Belt generally works correctly with iOS apps such as HRV4Training and also seems to work much better with the Suunto App. That makes me suspect an issue with the connection between the HR Belt and the 9 Peak Pro, possibly related to the firmware update.
**Has anyone experienced similar problems?
Would it be worth trying a firmware rollback, and which previous firmware version would be recommended for testing?**
I will also install another new battery and repeat some controlled tests over the next few days.

@Ecki-D Just out of interest, is it a must for you to use a Suunto chest strap? I only use H10 and no issues so far.
-
@Highlands nope, that’s another option to try if I can’t fix it.

I checked runs from Spring in this year.
In April, with apparently the same setup, the R-R data recorded by the 9 Peak Pro looked normal. The recent recording contains repeated missing or corrupted R-R intervals and implausible HRV values. So it doesn’t look like a Firmware thing cause the major BT updates happend in Sept 25 and in January 26
