Finally a reaction from Suunto about the disconnecting heart rate sensor
-
I finally got a more detailed message from Suunto about the disconnecting Bluetooth sensors that bug me for some time now (started about the same time Suunto reworked the bluetooth stack in their firmware)
“Our development team has conducted a preliminary analysis of the issue you reported, and the details are as follows:
According to the logs, the heart rate monitor and Footpod successfully paired and functioned normally initially. However, after about half an hour, the sensor began to frequently disconnect and reconnect. Subsequently, the system underwent an assertion-triggered BLE firmware reboot. After this, the heart rate monitor failed to reconnect, while the Footpod continued to disconnect and reconnect.
Since these disconnections were not initiated by Nextgen, our preliminary analysis points to a potential connection maintenance issue at the BLE firmware level.
Currently, we have forwarded this to the colleagues responsible for driver development for further analysis and handling.
Regarding whether it is a software or hardware issue, we cannot make a definitive conclusion at this stage and need to wait for the driver team’s further investigation results. We will update you as soon as we have a clear conclusion.”

@elbee i can be wrong, but i think i have the same issue with connecting only the Cadence sensor of the garmin speed+cadence sensor package.
Previous times it typically worked.
I also had dropouts on the HRM during a 2h bike ride. Typically the sensor disconnects and doesn’t reconnect at all.

Yeh, that sounds as the same problem. You could send an email to support@suunto.com and share the logs via the suunto app (in the settings of the app).
The response I now got is progress (first, Suunto denied knowing of any problem although I reported it before). More reports might result in more awareness of the urgency of the problem.

@elbee here they agreed with me some time ago: https://forum.suunto.com/topic/15082/race-2.53.42-unreliable-connection-to-suunto-bike-sensor/4

@brechtvb so far so good with the latest update, but Race S has not received it yet.
-
I would find it strange that a bug would be fixed in the race 2 firmware and Suunto cannot even tell if it is a hardware or software problem for the race s.
For me, the problem could disappear for weeks and sudden occur a couple of times in one week. The release of the race 2 firmware isn’t that long ago.

@elbee as far as I know the resolution of this bug was planned in Q2 firmware update. I will report it to Suunto if it happens again with the new firmware.
-
I only have a recent (as in today) reaction from Suunto stating they haven’t got a clue what causes the problem, let alone how to fix it.
But please do report it, with logs, when it happens again. That would be very helpful.
