@maszop one also has to keep up with today’s standards on sport watches. This forum contains long lists of features which are highly desired and basic bugs which come and go.

        1. Return to watch screen while recording an activity

I have heard some people ask for this but not many.

        1. Pause an activity and resume later

My previous watch, a forerunner 965, had this but is was quite buggy. I was about the only one complaining about it on garmins forum, so it is hardly used,I understand the wish but again, not many people ask for it.

        1. Customize activity buttons (like disabling the lap button)

Most people actually use the lap button. Few report unwanted lap button presses. Had a discussion about it and it turned quite quickly into a very complex option.

        1. Night shift and/or red shift screen for at night

I’ve heard some people ask for this.

        1. More customizable watch screens (why so few data fields available? at least let me add data fields on the black and white raise-to-wake display)

Personally, I’m puzzled with people who want a gazillion datafields on their watchface. On garmin’s forum these sort of watchfaces are called dataoverload. But if you want as many options and maximize data (whether useful or not) buy a garmin!

        1. Truly custom watch faces (not just modifying Suunto’s preset options)

My previous garmin had watchfaces designed by a ten your old. There will always complain people abouy watchfaces.

        1. More reliable message syncing (I see stale notifications all the time)

Yeh, I have this too. Most of the time I forgot to remove them from my iPhone. Since Apple (was forced to) change the way a non Apple watch can interact with notifications, there is some work for Suunto/Garmin/Coros and others.

@pbanon What you call basic features, mostly are smartwatch features, that really are not needed on sports watch.
Getting back to watch face during activity? Why would you ever want to do that, your activity has all the data you need.
You can always pause an activity and unpause the activity even if you are resting for prolonged time period.
Lap button is one of the main functions of the watch, so not sure how many would want to customize it, but of course customizations are always nice.
Custom watch faces is a gimmick, I would like Suunto to spend dev resources somewhere else.

Of course the functions that already there should work as best as it should, so syncing should be better probably, but I do not have any problems, so did not notice.

And do not get me wrong, I am not against new things being added, I just think Suunto should prioritize sports related things and not gimmicks, it is all about priorities. 🙂

@aiv4r indeed, like properly connecting to standardised Bluetooth sensors and not loosing connection to Suunto’s own heart rate sensor.

I’ve just been using the Coros Nomad for 6 days, and I think Suunto is better in terms of hardware, software, design, and quality.

The Coros Nomad is really OK, but honestly, I’ve learned to live without a lot of stats, and the ones it does have are fine for me when combined with Intervals.icu.

For example, here’s what I don’t like about the Coros:

              • lack of popular trails when creating a track—this is a huge downside when there are no official trails nearby and you don’t know how to plan your run—you might end up on old, overgrown paths, or find there’s basically no path at all in reality.

              • LiveTrack sharing—someone else has to have the Coros app,

              • smaller screen and reduced readability—there’s a lot of detail on the map, which can make it harder to read

Of course, Suunto should keep improving its software, because if it stops, it’ll become a dinosaur and lose market share.

In fact, Suunto has done a lot, and we’re looking forward to Q3 2026! 🙂 I hope my V1 gets updates.

Coros is very similar to Garmin.

Sunto is a whole different story, and I think I’m more of a Suunto person. It would be hard for me to switch to Garmin or Coros now after 2 years with Suunto Vertical 1 and before 4-5 years with Garmin.

absolutely. we can always give feedback and answer surveys.
I do this frequently but frankly speaking, suunto has their ideas.
some of your feedback is being asked for for many years from different people.
it’s up to suunto to listen and implement. bit we will never know when or if they add a feature

I have changed from garmin to suunto about 9 years ago because I found the web page so much better and movescount allowed my to check my vertical speed in meters per hour and such things.

I have used the fenix 3 back then and changed to an ambit 3 peak.
after only few years suunto announced the shut down of the fantastic website and app movescount and offered the suunto app on the phone instead…
it was a real pain in the ass back then, especially the lacking support for ambit series and I definitely didn’t want to buy a spartan.

what to do? go back to garmin?

now being on the suunto app for 7 years, we still don’t have the meter per hour ascent rate value…
and watches being released recently all have the blinding bright or dead black amoled display that I don’t like.
again, moving back to garmin? enduro 3 or soon 4? or coros apex 4? they have a mip display at least…
and the rest… a line on the map, a curve in the HR chart and probably some indication wether you are improving or not.
and the rest is, as said, a compromise and a decision based on preference and taste 🙂

@pbanon Different people have different needs. If you ask me, none of what you listed is important to me, and if I wrote a list of top improvements that I want, it would be completely different, and it is likely that you won’t care about what I want.

From your list I only care some about the button customization. But with only 3 buttons, there isn’t much that can be done because all of them are used for essential watch functions. But perhaps it could be nice in some situations to disable laps and instead use the bottom button to switch the lower field instead - what we currently do by tapping the screen on the map screen and the elevation profile. That would be equivalent to the “View” button on Ambit and allow to disable the touch completely. I’d use that for ultramarathon running.

Suunto: Ambit, Ambit 3 Peak, 9 Baro, Race S, Race Ti, Vertical 2 Ti
Garmin: Forerunner 210, Forerunner 610, Fenix 6X, Fenix 7X Ti

@pbanon So I find the contribution quite justified. I really find the further development of the software very slow compared to many others. and you can’t even say that the watch runs super stable. Everyone has different demands and wishes, that’s true. In my case it is the design and quality of the watch. Nevertheless, I miss the innovation and rapid development of, for example, Coros. Also, I would just like more and faster development in the app. Crashes and errors also have other manufacturers on it I do not want to ride around at all. only they also have significantly more functions and or development… what is e.g. with the tide widget of the Ocean… why not also on Race or Vertical? That would have been a sign. certainly not everyone needs it… but having is better than needing 🙂 . This is also progress.

…slow development… I think we can not ignore this fact away…
it took us 4 years to get a lock function in watch mode to prevent accidental button press
