I bought a Suunto Ocean last week and I am experiencing a problem with the accelerometer/step counting.

The watch consistently shows 30–40% fewer steps than the actual number of steps taken. I compared the results with both a Fitbit device and the pedometer on my phone, and those two devices show almost identical results, while the Suunto Ocean significantly undercounts the steps.

I also performed several tests over distances of 100 m, 200 m, and 500 m. On shorter distances, the watch sometimes shows approximately correct values, but over longer distances the step counter appears to freeze and stops counting steps properly. The final result is always around 30–40% lower than the actual number of steps.

Following Suunto’s recommendations, I already performed both a soft reset and a hard/factory reset, but the issue remains the same.

Since I purchased the watch in Tokyo and I live in Europe, I would appreciate it if someone could clarify whether this is caused by the step-counting algorithm or by a defective accelerometer/sensor. If the device is faulty, I would need to return or replace it immediately, as handling this later from Europe could become complicated.

      Thank you in advance
