@Wojciech-Kubica as I said : I’m not a developer myself (but I work in a software company…). It’s always easy to critises, sarcasmes don’t lead anywhere, and it’s not constructive. And yes to me it’s been improved a lot since it was launched (as well as the suunto app).
(And please note that downvotes are very rare on this forum ; I don’t use it myself).
I don’t know what you guys are doing with your SV1 to say it’s garbage. And also about updates, it has been written here several times either for Ocean or with the latest update for SV1 that updates will come but need time.
All the points you mentionned as cons are known, described and tested on many reviews. Every brand has his direction and makes choices.
Suunto is what it is ; ihmo it’s vain to keep turning in circles on the same things…
If those cons are « no go’s », some other brands could probably satisfy you.
I personally have all I need for my training, adventures and races.

And yes, talking about empathy, comprehension among us and towards those working to bring us leasure tools, I prefer someone that says « I’m disappointed and hope that some features or corrections will arrive » VS « suunto developers are lazy guys and things we asked are easy to do »

@Wojciech-Kubica I’m very satisfied with my V1, 976 activities 1752 h duration, 32.8k km, no issues. Great sport watch from my opinion… Can it be better? Sure… everything can be better, nothing is perfect…

@nseslija Same for me, by far the best sports/GPS watch I’ve ever owned - and I’ve owned plenty! Sure there’s been a few glitches and bugs but overall it’s one hell of a tool. It’s kept me on pace during my ultra’s and kept me safe and on track during many adventures in unknown territory
I’ll have had it for 3 years next month, and the fact that over those 3 years it’s continually being worked on and improved is not lost on me. I’ve been part of this forum for years and this is just another nice extra… good job Suunto

Hi. I also think the Vertical is still a good sports watch. I hope that in the next v1 update they’ll be able to include the altitude in the elevation contours in the maps at zoom resolutions that the MIP screen can display. Having them is useful in some conditions.

@Thomas-Gaggero from the features of the latest Q1 update, I hope the V1 at least gets:

                • custom fields on map screen
                • improved alarm (days of week)
                • looping number picker

the rest of the features would be nice too, but the above are the ones I’m missing. Other than those, I’d really like an ‘up ahead’ screen, so I can see the names and distances of upcoming way points along a route.

Climb v3 is my only addition wish

About alarms my only wish (concerns all watches) would be to be able to setup it during exercice (dedicated thread here)

These delays in updates make it seem like the “new” Suunto is abandoning watches older than 2 years… not a good look, especially since the Suunto Vertical is still featured on the official homepage.

@Manuel-Extreme Just a reminder: even when the Vertical 1 launched, it had serious performance problems – Suunto had to strip out full widgets, contour lines, map details and so on. So they managed to add a lot of things in the end, despite the hardware limitations

@Manuel-Extreme I agree… I bought mine in May 2023 (€800) and the fact that it can no longer be updated after the December 2025 update is extremely frustrating (The watch might get an update, but I think that will be the last one.)

The Vertical 1 was the first watch to feature maps and other features compared to the historical watches.
I really hope that the Watch series following the Vertical will not go down the same path. I’m looking forward to the upcoming updates for the other watches.

Suunto 9 peak pro: 3 years updates is good and reasonnable.

Vertical 1 is still an excellent device. I still see it very often on athletes’ wrists during ultra races.
In my opinion, a good update policy should not be shorter than 5 years, which for most consumers is the minimum usage window before even considering a replacement.
For smartphones, the European Union requires manufacturers to provide operating system updates for at least 5 years after the product is taken off the market, as well as ensuring spare parts availability for 7 years.
I think the same should apply to sports watches.

I agree that V1 still is the best watch suunto has built in recent years.

what distinguishes phones from watches is, that watches do not need security updates. V1 works perfectly well with the last release.
of course we see new features on V2 and R2 that would be nice to have.
if I hadto decide today for a new suunto I would still go for V1.

                              Hello,

Is there any timeline for the next update. I experience the issue when backlight stays on even when it’s not activated in settings. This drains batterry extremelly fast. I did not find a way to replicate the issue - it happens from time to time.

If anything is to be prioritized I suppose this is it

                              Thank you
