Pool swimming app tracking distance wrong
-
Hi. New user, sorry if I’m posting in the wrong forum.
When I swim in the pool, I’m new to it and am only swimming 8 laps, or 400 yards. Each lap, my Race S measures the 50 yard distance and lap time appropriately. When done, it shows 400 yards and total time and the other metrics. When I get to the locker room, my watch syncs to the phone and the distance changes to 385 yards. Every time! What would cause this?
Thanks!

@rwmastel0 this should be fixed with an update

@rwmastel0 I am extremely familiar with this issue. This morning I swam 3200 and it recorded 3080. Both my and your workout were shorted by 3.75%. It happens when I record in yards or meters. It happened with v2.50.26 and with v2.53.52. I emailed support starting in January, provided lots of details (as I’m a professional software quality engineer) including a dump and couldn’t get any satisfaction.
I’ve owned 3 Suunto wearables (dive and activity watches), bought 2 for my wife, and although the Suunto Race S has the best screen, this software defect kind of ruins the party. The worst thing is that it KNOWS what the correct total is because that’s what the accumulator shows right before I end the session. Then it makes an unnecessary adjustment and subtracts 3.75% before recording the data. This never happened in the Suunto Spartan Ultra I had, so it is a clear regression in software quality. While that percentage sounds pretty small, my yearly goal is to swim 200 miles. That defect means that it will be off by 13,200 yards!
Why can’t this issue get the attention it deserves? I’m a loyal customer who’s more than willing to help provide any necessary data or experimentation to help solve it.

@Joe-Hennessey using Race S here, tracking in yards, and so far no issues with istance measured, I used drills but not guides ( structured workout), can it be that you stop activity while S+ Swim timer is yet to detect your done with last swim portion? That is, you’re not in rest period rhythm stopping the workout?

@herlas Excellent question! I’m not using drills or guides as far as I know, I just start the “Pool Swimming” activity, swim, then end the session after doing my Master’s workout. One of my experiments to see if I could solve this issue was to finish swimming, wait 1 minute before hitting the upper button (from which I can then end the session) then waiting another minute before ending the session. As I said, the correct total of yards is showing at the end of my swim. It just ends up as 3.75% less when the session is ended. Every flipturn is recorded. Once the data is transferred to the Suunto app, if I look at the lap lengths under the “Lap / Interval” data at the bottom of my event’s data, I can add them up manually and get the correct total length. It’s just that yards total shown on the summary before you go into the event that’s off, as well as the distance shown in the first set of data when you enter the details of the event.

@Joe-Hennessey I see, that’s odd indeed. As mentioned above, this seems to be known by Suunto and they will fix in future, now it’s the waiting game :), if I get to reproduce will share here.
