Would appreciate some help (I did search the forum) - How do you find the names of the next waypoints and how far they are away along a pre-planned route?

On a hike this weekend, the next waypoint would pop up, cross-road, but I didn’t know the name of the cross road, as I had several saved. Only the symbol is shown for the next waypoint. I had them named on the route. Additionally, is there a way to see how far away upcoming waypoints are, for instance a planned lunch spot waypoint may be the third way point along, and I’d like to know how far it is to get there for lunch. The problem is there are several waypoints to reach before there, but I can only see how far the next up waypoint is, not how far the lunch spot is away. If this isn’t possible, consider this a feature request.

There is no accessible list of route waypoints on the watch. Searching the forum for comparative mentions of Garmin’s “Up Ahead” feature will show some unsatisfied interest.

For the icon-instead-of-waypoint-name problem: accidental/invisible duplication of waypoints can do that.

Have you rechecked your route waypoints in the app?

Sometimes the duplicates only show up if you examine the exported route in another program/website.

@Fenr1r Regarding the icon-instead-of-waypoint-name problem, I think there is a bug that triggers randomly. Even when using the exact same route, my SV1 sometimes shows the waypoint names, but other times it just shows a generic icon/waypoint type without names. Removing the route from the watch and re-syncing usually solves this.

          SV: fingers crossed :D
S9 (non-baro): died after 2 months, replaced, holding strong since 03/20
Spartan Trainer: casing broke after 23 months, repaired, lost watertightness 5 months later, died
Despite some pretty bad luck, I still love Suunto!

@inkognito Re random bug: yup, that’s what I’m worried is the truth. Removing & re-syncing didn’t work for me.

I have managed to correct a route that was similarly inconsistent by exporting it, opening it in Plotaroute, deleting all hidden auto-created WPs in the “Directions” panel, downloading, importing to SA, etc. Tedious but so far effective for the routes I consider important enough to bother beforehand.

A fix for all? No idea. But if you’ve got such a route you’ll do again … give it a go and report back, please!
