Feature Request: Dedicated STA (Static Apnea) Mode for Suunto Ocean
-
I am writing as a Suunto Ocean user to request the addition of a dedicated Static Apnea (STA) mode, or at the very least, the ability to save stopwatch usage to the dive log within the existing Freedive mode.
Critical Issues:
Competition Gap: Competitors like the Garmin Descent series have a “Pool Apnea” mode that allows for timing and logging breath-holds on the surface (STA) without requiring depth.
Feature Paradox: The Ocean now includes lifestyle modes such as “Chores,” yet it lacks a mode for one of the three primary pillars of freediving (Static).
Proposed Solutions:
A “Static Apnea” Sport Mode: A mode that allows a manual start/stop timer on the surface that saves to the logbook as a 0-depth entry.
Enhanced Stopwatch: Allow the existing stopwatch usage in Freedive mode to be “Saved” in the session log, regardless of whether a depth trigger occurred.
.FIT File Export Support: Ensure that when performing a .FIT file export, the static apnea duration, heart rate data, temperature, and timestamps are included. This is essential for users who sync or analyse their training data with third-party tools and need to track breath-hold progression over time without depth-triggering.
I hope to see this addressed in an upcoming firmware & app update.
