@mich-heller For me the morning report reappeared out of the blue 1-2 days before my V2 got updated to the latest stable software.

The issue you’re describing—freezing in settings, unresponsive buttons/touch, appearing “dead” or blank after soft resets and while on the charger—is a known recurring problem with the Suunto Vertical (original model), especially around software updates like the recent 2.50.26 staged rollout that started January 7, 2026 (Q4 2025 firmware). It often ties into deep freezes, partial boot failures, or battery/charging glitches post-update or after repeated resets. Many users report similar sequences: backlight stuck on, menu lockups, then blank/unresponsive screen that doesn’t wake easily.

You’re not alone; identical symptoms appear in Suunto forums, Reddit, and Facebook groups from 2023 through 2026, including after charging or resets.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting to Try Right Now (Escalating Order)

Start with the charger plugged into a strong wall adapter (5V/1A+ recommended, not a weak laptop USB port). Clean contacts if needed. Leave it attached undisturbed for at least 30–60 minutes initially—deeply discharged or frozen watches can take 20+ minutes just to show any sign of life.

          1. Extended upper-button hold (most successful for blank/unresponsive cases)
            While on the charger:
Press and hold the upper button (topmost on the right side) for at least 20–60 seconds continuously.

            • Many users say it reboots after ~12 seconds but keep holding longer (up to 60s) to force a full recovery from deep freeze or “service mode.”
            • Release, wait 10–30 seconds, and see if the screen lights up, vibrates, or shows the logo/charging indicator. Repeat 3–5 times if no response.
          2. Alternative button combos while charging

            • Hold upper + middle buttons together for 15–20 seconds.
            • Hold all three right-side buttons simultaneously for 15–30 seconds.
These have revived “dead” screens for some after normal 12s reset failed.
          3. Charge longer + periodic attempts
Leave it charging undisturbed for 2–4 hours total (even overnight if possible). Every 30–60 minutes, try the extended upper-button hold again. Some watches enter a recovery state only after sustained power.

          4. If it wakes up at any point

            • Immediately do a factory reset via watch menu: Settings → General → Reset settings → confirm (erases everything unsynced—try to sync to app first if it connects).
            • Re-pair with the Suunto app, check for any pending updates (this firmware 2.50.26 includes bug fixes for crashes/button issues), and test thoroughly.
            • Avoid rapid on/off or repeated soft resets right away to prevent re-triggering the freeze.

If Nothing Works After Several Hours/Attempts

          • This points to a deeper software lock (sometimes called “service mode” with blank or partial screen) or rare hardware/battery fault.
          • Contact Suunto Support right away: Use the in-app chat (if app sees the watch), their website support form, or email/phone your regional service center. Provide:
            • Serial number (on box or under watch).
            • Proof of purchase (for warranty—Vertical 1 is typically 2 years).
            • Describe symptoms + what you’ve tried (including firmware version if known).
Many users in similar “bricked after update/reset” situations got warranty replacements or repairs quickly.

No special “secret” recovery combination beyond the above is documented for the Vertical. Avoid draining it fully on purpose right now (as some battery-drain threads suggest), since it’s already unresponsive.

Try the extended hold first—it’s revived quite a few “dead” Verticals. Update me on what happens after attempting these!*

So sorry about your issue. Got this response from Grok. Hopefully, it helps you solve the problem.

I’m really glad the watch has “come back to life” — fingers crossed it’s just a small hiccup and nothing more serious.
Which Coros model did you go for?
Whichever of the two you end up keeping, I wish you lots of great adventures with it! 😊

For the second time since i have the 2.50.xx version, my watch stopped recording HR (the HR sensor light doesn’t turn on), only turning it off and on again fixed it.

This bug was present 1ish year ago and was supposedly fixed, I think there’s a regression here ^^

And today I wanted to get up early for a morning running sesh.
I set up my watch alarm to wake up at 6:10AM.
I woke up to my wife alarm at 6:50AM

my watch was “off” (despite being well charged).
I sent the logs as soon as the watch turned on.

its really frustrating to not be able to trust a watch to do things so basic, fortunately it’s just a missed run, but I used this function to catch planes before, I will never do it again because there’s a non zero chance the thing will never wake me up… 😞

Thats useful to know. My battery drains a third every day, without any activities. My watch is close to two years old so I think suunto will refuse to look at it. I’m so annoyed by this as i’ve been a suunto user for 15+years, and have never had a problem. I bought the watch to use for long Ultra races, which I now don’t feel comfortable in using.

@Geoffwilli if its not two years old you might still be under warranty, its worth a try

Answearing to myself, my watch did turn off again this night, so it might not be related to alarms (none was active).
                                I will hard reset it

@Geoffwilli with this latest fw I have a stable daily drain of around 10% including 30 to 60 mins of GPS activity per day - SVTiSolar which I received as a replacement last September. I have a paired Polar H10, I suspect this may be the reason.

My Suunto Race battery seems to be draining much faster than on the previous firmware, and it’s clearly not just me 😕

@Milan-Šádek That seems a reasonable amount of drain per day. I’m experiencing around 35% drain every 24hrs with no activities on my race, so charging every other day. I have no faith in using the watch for anything over 50mile races. This is silly, as I purchased the watch for 100 miles races etc.

My race S also drain faster in daily use, I find myself to recharge it more often (1 day earlier ?) than before.

@Geoffwilli with my old unit I’d get 6–8% drain per day with an hour of GPS (sometimes even below 6%). I even remember finishing a 50km race and the watch still being at 23% ten days later.

This replacement watch started off okay at around 6–7.5% on older firmware, but now it’s jumped to 10%+ daily. It’s a huge step backward and honestly pretty frustrating. Is anyone else seeing this jump after the latest update?

@Milan-Šádek I don’t know which watch you have but if it’s a Race S (9 days with HR, without GPS => 11%/day) or Race 1 (13 days with HR, without GPS ==> 7-8%/day) then I think you are getting what you should expect (assuming you are NOT using AOD which reduces battery life further). No?
With my Vertical 2, latest firmware (2.50.28), I am getting 14 days with 25 hours of GPS (running, cycling) which is exactly what the V2 spec implies (21 days with HR, without GPS => 5%/day and 65 hours of best GPS => 1.5%/hour extra for GPS).
I don’t use external BT connectivity except for the Android App (on Android 16). You may get worse drain if you use external HR belts etc.
