Very disappointed with the watch
-
I don’t understand this watch.
I used a Garmin Forerunner 255 for over three years (and I’m really not a fanboy) and was very happy with it. Then I wanted something newer and opted for the Race 2. This watch consistently shows me a heart rate 20 or more beats higher than the FR while running, and it also displays a time that’s 1:30 minutes slower. Today I ran three 1km intervals. If I go by heart rate, I was in zone 5 as planned. But if I look at ZoneSense, I’m currently in zone 1. Maybe I just don’t understand ZoneSense.
Furthermore, the watch constantly stops measuring heart rate during daily use. -
@SyntaxError Zonesense is not working very well in intervall sessions (though 1km is maybe long enough). There is a very good youtube lecture from Suunto on Zonesense on YouTube (among other very interesting videos)

@SyntaxError for 1km intervals, ZS will start reflecting effort better after 700-800 meters, that’s been my experience, road runner here. The other issue is known and a fix is coming in few days.
-
@herlas depends on your pace

They say it needs about 2 min to reflect changes in your heart. -
At a 5-minute pace, the display didn’t even reach zone 2 or 3. I could live with that. I generally run intervals by pace. But the fact that it shows me different values than another watch is really annoying.
-
Just a question, how do you conclude that the FR shows the correct values? Are you using a HR belt or is it just the OHR?
-
@smutnak
I’m using a HRm Pro+ belt. With the Forerunner, I run at 5:45 - 6 minutes with an average heart rate of 128 BPM. With the Race 2, I run in the same range at 7 minutes.
Regardless of whether I use the strap with the Race 2 or the wrist measurement. -
Are you disappointed with Race 2? Buy the Ocean, and you’ll be praying to go back to Race 2.

@SyntaxError the HR readins with the belt should be the same on Garmin and Suunto. I remember having read something about the HRM Pro+ here in the forum not too long ago.
That said, distances should be about the same as well. If they differ by that amount, you should email support@suunto.com - possibly you have a defect watch…
