[Feature suggestion] UI / UX improvement for Map and Elevation Profile data screens
-
On most data screen the activity menu is activated by long press on the Lap button. However on the map screen and on the elevation profile, the navigation menu is activated by a short press on the Lap button.
Considering that the navigation menu is very rarely used, there is an opportunity to use the Lap button to allow user to do some minimal customization of the these two data screens. It should work similarly to how the “View” button worked on Ambit series. Pressing the Lap button would rotate the bottom field through a small set of different fields, for the example on the map screen, if someone doesn’t care about distance to next waypoint, they could see their HR or pace, or current time, or ETA, or perhaps distance to next turn. Similarly, on the elevation profile it would be possible to switch from the current time to distance to next waypoint or some other metrics. Ideally the set of fields should be customizable and fairly short, e.g. 3 or 4 different choices.
I know that there have been requests to allow a customizable data field on the map, so this could be a way to satisfy that.
Also, for those users who prefer the Lap button to still work for triggering laps while on the map screen or elevation profile, that could also be an option.
Switching the navigation menu to the long press on the Lap button would make it more consistent with other data screens without losing any functionality.

Well thought out and reasonable suggestions for improvement, as usual. I would also suggest an option to display intensity zones ring/gauge on the map screen, just as it is displayed on other data pages. It would be very helpful to have it even without the corresponding numerical data field. This way, users could stay on the map page all the time without switching back and fort to check the intensity. 🥵
