Every watch but Suunto Race 2
-
I’ve had many fitness watches over the years Garmin, Apple and Polar. Every one has been able to detect my Heart rate on my tattooed arm except the Suunto. Is there anything you can do to make the Suunto optical sensor work a bit harder to detect the HR. It’s absolutely fine on my un tattooed arm but I cannot get away with wearing a watch on that wrist.

@bradley858585 If infrared light could easily pass through tattoos, they wouldn’t even bother mentioning it in the manual
It’s not a matter of belief—it’s purely a physics limitation. Sure, it might register a reading, but the real question is… how accurate is it? -
@bradley858585 From some research I’ve done, it seems this is due to the way Suunto filters reading errors. Instead of smoothing and mitigating the errors, it stops the measurement altogether. I’m not sure how effective this strategy really is.
