Apologies if this has been brought up elsewhere already, but I’ve lost track of all the different threads and various issues to do with HR.

Since the last watch update, where the HR zones were reset, my Race S has consistently used the standard zones despite how many times I set my custom ones in the watch. The zones always appear correctly under “training” in the watch, but during activity it clearly uses the default ones with the result that my zones are way too high since the default ones are much lower than those measured in a lab for me. This incorrect data of time spent in zones then sync to the app, resulting in a recent 50k race appearing as if I spent 60% of it in zone 5, which was clearly not the case!

I use a HR belt and as mentioned my custom zones have been measured in a lab, so not sure what’s going on here—why is the watch not using the zones I’ve set myself?

@logger, It seems there are too many bugs in the new update 2.44.46. My watch is not saving any customisation for the workouts. Every workout, I have to go and set up everything all over again.

@logger Just a thought. Perhaps you entered your HR zones as default HR zones, but the watch uses Advanced Zones for running. After the last update I noticed that advanced zones were reset to some arbitrary auto-configured values.

@sky-runner Ah, why didn’t I think of that!? It was indeed the case, even though I have never turned on that setting in all my 10+ years of owning Suunto watches.

Automatically messing with these kinds of settings during an update is really not ok—I like regular updates as much as anyone, but not at the expense of silently changing all kinds of used-defined calibrations.

            Thanks!

@logger I fully agree. Not only Suunto autogenerated or changed advanced pace and HR zones in the last update, but there was also zero communication about that, so users had to discover that on their own through forums once they started to get bogus performance metrics. And how many users are still completely unaware of this?

This is something I might expect from Garmin but not from Suunto. I see a lot of negative comments about Suunto on Reddit recently.

@Brad_Olwin as mentioned and reported already, since last update most users have had there personnalized HR zones for all sport reseted, special zones for running being pinned ON, and since then all running activities currently tagged to V02max, even if low intensity training (even if HR zones are set again and special zones for running (pace/power) unpinned).
I’m concerned, so are my 5 close friends using SRs, SV and SR.
                  For cycling it’s ok.

@Brad_Olwin, most of the settings, including battery, map, HR (ON/Off), only the settings for Auto Pause and Auto Loop stay. None of the previous settings stays. On my old watch, Suunto 5 and Ambit Peak 3 stay forever until I change. I blindly choose my activity and start without worrying about settings.

And there is no way one can customise as per personal need, and whatever they are offering inbuilt as part system forces you to stay with that (Race S).

I am sorry to say that again and again, but the software on new watches is way buggy and unfriendly.

On my cycling trip, HR is not consistent. I know if it reaches to 140-150, one can feel physically, but here it keeps bouncing (by the way, I tightened my wrist belt well, so it’s not moving). my suunto 5 is more consistnat.

@sky-runner Problem is my watch shows version 2.44.46, and I don’t see anything about this update on their site. The details of the last update are 2.43.12 only. Not sure if I am running the beta version on my watch (Though I never opted for it).

@Tieutieu identical experiences - and opinions/assessments - of friends and myself about the unexplained and frustrating results of the ‘classification’ of runs (rides, walks etc work as usual). Extremely annoying, and creating quite strong reactions.

using a Suunto Vertical & Suunto Wings; mostly running (AKA stomping around) and cycling through the northern german "wilderness", and wherever else I have the chance to do so
