I have done some 50 dives with my Ocean now and I’m quite happy especially after the compass function came. My main complaint has been the very lagging maps which this update did address. I use it as my main wrist device, I have another computer for trimix.
The battery life is excellent and the display is one of the most visible. My son dives with Garmin and we both agree the Ocean is more clear in dive mode.
Since there is a lot of disappointment in this thread I’m curious what are the things I should be missing? Sidemount support? Timers? Not saying there is no room for improvement but should I demand more? The price point is quite low in my opinion.

@pavel.samokha Hello, I have repeatedly requested an upgrade to the alarms function. Nothing fancy or complicated—just the ability to set alarms independently, such as twice per week on specific weekdays (e.g., Mondays and Thursdays) or only on weekends. This is a function similar to what Garmin watches already provide. Unfortunately, despite many users asking for the same improvement, it seems Suunto either does not consider it important or is not listening to customer feedback. In any case, this is disappointing. Best regards.

@bljyla Don’t get me wrong, it is a fantastic dive computer. The screen brightness and battery level alone are a massive upgrade over the D5.

I personally prefer the dive screen on the Ocean over the Teric and Descent. However, I would like it to be more customisable and maybe a couple of different layout options. I don’t like having to cycle through stats and faces to see the information i want, I’d like to be able to put it all on one screen how I want. I love how NDL and Tank Pressure use the outer circle as a kind of “gauge” but I’d like an option where they only use half each so can be used on the same face (a bit like how the Descent does tissue and ascent rate). The Dive screen is basically unchanged since the D5 was released so it would be cool to see some variations.

I’d also like to see a more advanced planner. The planner was added in the previous update which was great but its still quite basic, even compared to it’s predecessor the D5 which could plan multi dives and calculate gas time too.

A very minor one but the no-fly timer doesn’t seem to acknowledge multi-dives. Most dive organisations recommend increasing your no-fly time after multi dives. The Ocean seems to just stick with 12hr no-matter how many dives you do. It also sticks around on the watch face long after its cleared which is a bit annoying and pointless imo.

I’d love to see improvements to the underwater maps over time. It’s a cool feature but its not very accurate. I know this is very tricky but this is something that no one else is doing so it’s a big selling point for the Ocean.

I’ve seen some requests for a tides app which would also get my vote.

There’s lots of other good suggestions on the forums. I do appreciate that it is marketed as a “Dive computer AND sports watch”, but it’s their flagship dive computer and it’s disappointing to see the lack of dive related updates. Sure the other sports need updating too but it sounds like it’s behind on those too. The Ocean is in a very strong position right now as its competing with dive computers twice it’s price but they’ll loose it if people start thinking they aren’t supporting it any more and competitors come up with more affordable options.

@bljyla For those of us who are using it not only as a dive computer or maybe even not as a dive computer at all (it’s effectively an AMOLED Vertical with a dive function), the six months and growing lag in features v Race is disappointing. Because apart from hardly necessary sport modes and new data fields galore, we are missing multiple sensors per type, Climb guidance improvements, GPS optimizations, ZoneSense as intensity target, track running mode, and many other very useful features available on far less expensive Suunto devices.

I tried the new face watch race 2, but it seems that it is not working properly :

                Hi!

                This exactly:

                • Add map options for freediving, snorkeling, and mermaiding.

                What options have been added?

By the way, I’ve tried the new watch faces. On the shark watch face, it only lets me modify one compilation. I modify it to put something else, but it doesn’t change; it always shows the surface time.

Another thing that happened to me is that the first diving activity after the update (I haven’t done any more) doesn’t appear in the Suunto app (Android), it only appears on the watch.

Same : more customizable dive screen to have NDL + TTS + Tank Pressure + Depth + Dive Time on the same screen.

                      @Jean-Philippe-REY

                      Hi everyone,
I’ve also noticed an issue with this watch face setting. At the bottom, instead of just showing “4 weeks,” a few extra characters appear unnecessarily. These redundant symbols are quite annoying. So it looks like it’s not only me experiencing this, it’s not unique, but rather a nice little bug. Hopefully Suunto is reading the forum. I’ve already reported it through the chat service, and the agent was very helpful. Let’s hope others do the same so that it gets fixed.

And we haven’t even mentioned that we’re also asking for the other features that are already available elsewhere! Miss Suunto, I’m just pointing it out in case no one else has mentioned it yet! 😉 🙂 You’ve already pointed out the diving-related needs as well. It seems the focus isn’t really on us. I hope the next update will deliver and make a big impact, because right now it feels more like a patchwork of fixes, with more shortcomings than resolved issues. On top of that, there are also new small annoyances.

In my opinion, the focus has shifted to the new Race 2 and the soon-to-arrive Vertical 2. Maybe there will be another “wonder child” as well. Once the hype around those dies down, perhaps the Ocean will finally get the attention it deserves. It’s a great watch — it would be a shame otherwise. I trust that Suunto sees it the same way.
