Suunto Race 2 General Discussion

@timecode hmm, i have problems with S5 that is doesn’t recognize when i am awake. It is just tracking when i don’t move rather then when i sleep. I am seriously thinking about upgrate to Race2. I hoped for improvement in this too.
-
@Josaiplu tap to wake and bump with palm of your hand to make it dark again are usefull in everyday use.
-
@Tomas5 is it working with sr2 ? I try with my wife race s and did not work but maybe I have miss a setting
-
@Josaiplu sorry my fault, my english, i mean that it would be great feature if implemented. I saw it in some other brands reviews. Don’t remeber exact model.
-
@Tomas5 ha ok no worries it sound a little too garmin when I read you
button press wake the display already but still no tap to wake so
-
@Tomas5 I believe Race 2 is a great. I’m still waiting for Vertical 2. I don’t I might end up buying both
-
@Josaiplu i am loyal suunto customer
if i don’t count dump casio watch i had only Suunto Ambit 2 and currently Suunto 5, and my wife has S5 Peak. But i trie do give my opinion if i don’t like something, or even when i see clear bug in some feature from programming experience. But as good/bad some suunto features may be, i still have soft spot for Suunto. Now i am currently plan to upgrade to Race 2. To S5 it is multi generation upgrade and mid to high class upgrade som i expect a lot
-
@Tomas5 pretty sure you will enjoy the upgrade it seems to be a great watch
miss few features for me to switch too but great enough too make me tempted too
-
@Josaiplu i would prefere MIP but i saw Race S and it looks fine, not a fan of amoled but i can handle it. And in S5 i really miss compas because it make navigation feature hardly usable when hiking. So i will be really happy with SR2. Hope for much better OHR too, since S5 they say almost every time that sensor is much better than previouse watch, so when now my S5 are 30-40% of time much away from reality, i hope in much better results with SR2. Hope it will be less than 10% of activity, preferably less than 5% of time when HR is completly wrong. But i am sure i will let you know. Now i am waiting for orange one to be in stock again.
-
@Tomas5 well upgrading to R2 won’t fix anything, in fact my experience is that sleep tracking is way worse than all of the watches I had.

I hope it is just bug and sleep tracking will be as good as Race 1 or Race S. I don’t see much conplains about sleep on that watch. With beter sensors it should deliver better results.

Today i sold my AppleWatch 10 LTE and bought Suunto Race 2.
So, im back to the Suunto community after short advanture with Suunto Race S one yera ago.
I’m full of hope that Race 2 will be much better than Race S. New Suunto App, New HR. Two apple watches in my hand in last yeras, firs Series 7, and now series 10 and i can tell. HR is the best and healt stats. And that it. No deep sports metrics by apple, App are not so good as it should. And battery life. One day bike trip with out charger and phone is hard to make. Hike are limited to outside apps if you want a map with directions.
Now with Suunto Race 2 all will be better. And if suunto add payment NFC method in the future this will be superb watch with all i need. Im happy after all and Hello again. -

For Apple, serious people need to move beyond the default Fitness and Health apps. I recommend the HealthFit app, which is a small one time cost (there’s an option for a supporter subscription that unlocks a few minor things) and gives a lot more info on your sessions. I’m using Suunto and Apple concurrently and most things in Suunto I can replicate somehow in the Apple ecosystem. There’s exceptions like ZoneSense where there is no equivalent though. There’s also many things Apple does Suunto does not, though these tend to be more on the “smartwatch” side — e.g. LTE for playing music when I am out without my phone, Apple Pay, etc.
As for battery life, I certainly agree Suunto is better there. However, depending on one’s needs this may not be too important. I tend to do some kind of workout every day, but my overall time is about 60-120m which the Apple Watch can easily handle. I do my workouts in the morning and then shower, and I dislike wearing watches during shower time. So I end up taking off both the Apple Watch and the Suunto Race S, and for Apple I put it on its charger automatically, and for Suunto, I need to check what the battery level is, and if 30% of less put it on the charger, but if higher put it right next to the charger, so in an odd way, it’s actually a little more work to ensure I optimize battery charging.
I don’t do multi-day hikes in the wilderness, etc. where Suunto’s battery life might be more a factor. For my personal day to day usage, both Suunto and Apple are good. The only time I think I’d need to worry about Apple is if I was planning an international trip, spending a lot of time in airports, etc. such that I might go closer to two days total without a shower.

I hope it doesn’t. I like that Suunto watch are primarily sports watch and not smart watch. It already has some basic notification integration (which on iOS is not so well implemented). But that’s it. My personal opinion is that they should focus first on fine tuning all sports sensors that they have. Improve quality of OHR, Sleep tracking, Recovery times, Blood Oxygen and other health/sports metrics rather than adding new hardware for NFC or other functionality which will increase cost of hardware and software. We already have NFC paymants on Phone, is it really needed in watch ?
-
@Tomas5 I’m with you on this. Well said.
-
@Tomas5 Race 2 already has NFC hardware from what I understand. So support for NFC could be added in the future via a software update.
