Suunto Race 2 General Discussion

@Luis-Andés-Olmedo i think HR is very important think. Almost all metrics like PTE, Calories, Recovery time, Fitnes level etc is based on HR. If this metric doesn’t work than everything i mentioned above is unusable. So if HR works everythink is great but if it doesn’t than only usable metric other than that is pace. Which can be measured by any cheap stopwatch if you are on known track. I understand that for running pace is really important. But in other sports like hiking, bike etc i think metrics like HR, cadence etc are more important.
-
@Tomas5 For now, when I need precise HR mesures (and I agree with you, it’s important), I use chest strap. Even if SR2 OHR seems better, I would probably continue to use HR strap anyway for running, cycling. I use OHR for my everyday mesure, sleep tracking, or tracking for walk, other sports.
But for running and all high intensity activies, I’ll continue to use chest strap until we have a OHR (or other way) to have perfectly reliable data.
Plus HR strap allows VFC mesure (zone sense).
So for me, OHR are getting better and that’s a good thing, but for now it’s a vain debate to hope to have perfect mesures with it. -
@Luis-Andés-Olmedo Pace is meaningless in the mountains and HR not much better. I use RPE for training now complement with ZoneSense, which is a game changer for me. ZS is not a proxy for HR
-
@Brad_Olwin I mainly do rpe too, just checking my jr sometime for 90% of my training (ohr I don’t use belt that much)
When I do intervals (short or long) I put a belt but even this I use rpe
I quantify my load using foster and it works quite well, when I run I know what is my Hr and I use the watch as a confirmation
Btw and sorry for the off topic but did you know if there is a way to define an rpe in the suunto app after exercice was recorded? -
@Josaiplu I use feeling for that…how hard the workout was. I have been asking for private comments as well. Tags will work for this.

@Tieutieu hope they will one day start again sell shirts like this https://www.lepape.com/en/salomon-t-shirt-movesense-men-grey with movesence support. I have some issues wearing chest strap. This would be best alternative.
-
@Tomas5 I would buy one, too!

I do a variety of modalities: running, cycling, indoor rowing, gymnastics rings, yoga, dumbbells, kickboxing,
Do you wear a watch while doing kickboxing? OMG! I did boxing and full contact for years, and I just can’t imagine wearing anything on my wrists or around my neck.

Has Suunto automated finally the “resources”, or does the user still have to play days or weeks with the minimal HR to get correct values?
Though I think I will wait for the Vertical 2 (s). As I use the AOD, Suunto’s look very simple in contrast to the ones from Huawei, Samsung, Apple, or Garmin. Once again, I hope Suunto will change its sales strategy and, like other manufacturers, will release different models of the same watch, such as size, materials, AMOLED, or MIP at the same time. This is much better for the client who can then choose what they want. -
A few things I don’t like so far:
- Sleep tracking is not reliable, the watch doesn’t recognize waking times reliably. Race 1 has no issues with that.
- Sleep data is not transfered to Suunto app:

- Scrolling with the crown is not as fluid as it was with Race 1. There is this lag between a transition from watch face to menu items sometimes, within menu items as well. Just doesn’t feel smooth.
- Resources are almost always 99%. Race 2 is not measuring any stress, I almost only recover all the time. Race 1 is measuring that very reliable.
- The stock watch band is the most uncomfortable band from Suunto ever made. It’s thick and not flexible, but this is just my opinion.

Hi
I have 2 questions sorry if the first one as already been raise but is there something like tap to wake available ?
I hate using raise to wake while in a boring meeting looking for the time
Second is more a request, if someone have a white race 2 with a yellow run band I would like to see a picture, I ask ChatGPT to create one mixing the 2 existing pictures and it look damn cool -
Quick question regarding the new charging cable - are you actually able to charge the old SR/SV using the new charger? And are you able to charge the new SR2 with the previous cable?
-
@kriskus nope, nope and nope, it’s a different design and doesn’t fit
-
@timecode hmm, i have problems with S5 that is doesn’t recognize when i am awake. It is just tracking when i don’t move rather then when i sleep. I am seriously thinking about upgrate to Race2. I hoped for improvement in this too.
-
@Josaiplu tap to wake and bump with palm of your hand to make it dark again are usefull in everyday use.
-
@Tomas5 is it working with sr2 ? I try with my wife race s and did not work but maybe I have miss a setting
-
@Josaiplu sorry my fault, my english, i mean that it would be great feature if implemented. I saw it in some other brands reviews. Don’t remeber exact model.
-
@Tomas5 ha ok no worries it sound a little too garmin when I read you
button press wake the display already but still no tap to wake so
-
@Tomas5 I believe Race 2 is a great. I’m still waiting for Vertical 2. I don’t I might end up buying both
