      I’ve been getting unreliable readings from my smart HR belt, which is now over 10 years old.
      I tested the belt resistance with a multimeter and it’s still under 10kΩ — it used to be under 1kΩ, but now reads around 7kΩ.
      I’m considering replacing the belt, but I’m concerned the issue might actually be with the sensor module.
      Has anyone replaced the belt only to find the module was the real problem?
      I’d rather not buy a new belt if I’ll end up needing to replace the whole set anyway.

        @Mattg576 the belt is something that has to be changed regularly, that’s normal because it streches around and get damaged, 10 years is a very long time for the belt but there’s no reasons for the sensor to “break”, just the battery, so i don’t see why it can’t be the belt, especially if you’re already reading values much higher than before.

        Worst case, you have to also buy a new sensor ? you have an extra belt to go with your new sensor…

          Check the area around the pins for cracks.
          If there are any cracks, moisture may have gotten inside, which could cause measurement errors.

            Yes, exactly this happened to me.

            Purchased a replacement belt, as it was a few years old and this had previously been the root cause of the issue, but turned out to be the sensor itself.

            On closer inspection I did find some moisture inside the old sensor.

            I now have two newish belts and one new sensor.

            Suunto M5, Quest, Trackpod, A2S, SSU, S9B, S9P, Race
            Garmin 305, 60, 405, Fenix 2, 945, 955
            Polar M430, Vantage V

              Thanks all, I’ve checked the sensor & all looks ok with that so I’ve ordered a replacement belt.

              Incidentally the belt is considerably cheaper from Amazon than direct from Suunto & also in stock (OOS at Sunnto).

                  The belt I’ve ordered has the grey Suunto patch where the sensor goes so I assume it’s the new type but the faulty one it will be replacing has the black patch, do you know if the older sensor will work with the new belt ?

                      But after you asked I checked the gumpf on Suuntos website & it confirmed it was backward compatible.

                        I’ve asked because the cheaper price. sometimes Amazon sells leftovers 🙂 and the new belt last longer then the old one
