Software Update 2.39.44 (2024 Q4 Hotfix + new pool swim algo)
-
Pretty confident that Suunto made the right prioritization decision choosing critical functionality over cosmetic issues that have a known workaround

@runomatic Chinese New Year!
Thanks, fixed
Maybe the support description on the website should be fixed too. Itās still Chinese New Year there.

@sartoric it is getting concerning how many bugs suunto has in their new firmwares. I mean last year it was the issue where the watch couldnāt even sync with the app. They keep releasing software with pretty major issues. I turned off auto update and downgraded my software to the one from two updates ago as the new ones also have a really ugly rolling UI. Less usable and uglier. They really need to up their QA. Because as of now their updates are creating more major issues than bugs they are solving. Luckily the vertical is fantastic and doesnāt need any updates. So I will most likely never update it again
-
@isazi Thanks for this information. I thought, wrongly, this hotfix will address every issues caused by December firmware update.
No problem for me to wait a little more as I understand a fix for the control panel display will come a bit later -

Maybe you will not be asked. Mine watch updates itself during the night, and I have automatic update off.
-
@TrailEyes Same here. For me it is usually solved by opening the notifications widget (but not via the control panel).
-
@Niclas-Brundell you forget that most of bugs are not experienced by all users. Thatās what makes difficult sometimes to correct, unfortunately. We already had that debate many times.
I work in a software company => we NEVER release bad updates, but almost every update needs corrections because there are plenty of use case that canāt be tested - sometimes small corrections, sometimes bigger ones or very tricky to isolate. (IA robots will probably help in the future to test deeply more use case).

@TrailEyes
I guess prioritizing OHR and Wi-Fi was the right choice.Maybe Iām misinterpreting your tone, but I wasnāt suggesting that the Control Panel display bug was more significant than OHR or Wi-Fi (I have a race this Saturday and am happy I can now download the map for that area).
But I donāt think it is wrong to note that this hotfix erased the ability for a soft reset to fix the display issue. Sounds like sharing that info is more helpful than hurtful to anyone who reads this.
-
@sebchastang no, a hotfix release is only scheduled to fix a serious bug. Working on hotfix slows down development of the next major update so it is not used for every bug.
-
@isazi I understand.
-
@Niclas-Brundell The OHR issue was difficult to find. I wore my 9PP (the watch affected the most) for a day or two with new firmware release and had no issues. The other watches I tested for sleep tracking and exercise and all day OHR also had not issues. When reported on the forum, I again donned my 9PP and after 3d I had the OHR quit. I had the OHR quit randomly on the Race S as well but never on my Vertical. This happened right at the holidays in December. The field testers had at least 12 firmware variants to test prior to this release. They and I am sure internal testers worked hard to see if the OHR issue was fixed.
So, some issues simply donāt occur and require a combination that may not occur in testing. Believe me that many, many bugs are fixed prior to a release. I had zero syncing issues last year and if I remember that was only Android and may have been again an issue that only affected a few users.
You will miss out on a lot if you do not update the Vertical. I typically run field test firmware on the Vertical I purchased. Rarely do I have serious issues. I know you do not like the UI with different sizing, I and others do, that is a personal issue. I donāt see how it is any less usable.

@Niclas-Brundell We wait with new updates and read Here clearly before update our great verticals
then we can choose if there is Something we will miss in the Future.

Unfortunately, Iām again seeing the Control Panel display issue that emerged at the December update. Although this time, a soft reset isnāt fixing the issue like before š«¤
Did you try :
go back to watchface
go to the middle button shortcut
go back to watchface
go to control panelThatās solve the issue on my vertical for me and like this I had the issue only three or four times since the December update.
-
@Kramble You rock!!
I had tried going to the upper-button shortcut already, but that hadnāt worked. Yet thanks to your comment, I also tried the middle-button pinned widget, and doing that first did fix the Control Panel display! Thank you so much!
-
@AntoniusGaius Mine too! Suddenly after some weeks it did say in the morning - oO I have been updated - this is really weird donāt know what did trigger it suddenly.
-
@Brad_Olwin
My 9PP was the same for the OHR issue, I think it took about a week before it stopped working.
In the case of the greatly increased (3x) battery drain during gps activity, which was by far the bigger issue for my use but many others didnāt experience at all, it happened immediately after the update. But not definitive at first with shorter activities (<1hr or so) given battery % is always rounded down and I just assumed Iād misread the starting %. I was only certain after an 8hr race used more than half the battery capacity. -
@MKPotts have also some battery drain issues on the 9PP. I will be sending it back to Suunto for the second time now. First time they changed the battery, which helped for a bit. Now it seems the issue is back.
-
@MKPotts as far as I know, an update for the 9PP is also coming to fix OHR and battery life during GPS activity. Just need some more testing (the 9PP has much less resources)
