@Swaddy61, thanks for your point of view. My belt is well over two years old, so I think it’s indeed time to change it. I will keep the Suunto smart strap because in summer, I swim in open water, and it has this feature for recording hours during the swim.

@Mattg576 , thanks a lot for the video. Also, I’ve tested my strap, and it does not conduct well anymore—although I’ve always followed the maintenance and cleaning instructions to ensure it has a long life.

First time since a while with a new Suunto Smart sensor (after some monthes of use of Coros OHR arm band).

During my first 10min warmup at constant endurance pace, I had two sharp rises of HR, for sure not realistic. Does anybody else has already had this ?

Schlimm.

I owned Suunto Smart sensor in the past (5-10 years ago). While the sensor itself worked fine, the straps seemed to be very unreliable and I had to replace them every 3-6 months in order to get good quality HR data. Once a strap was getting older it increasingly produced a lot of noise such as spikes with unrealistically high HR, and the quality of HRV was very poor, which I could clearly see in Elite HRV app. Cleaning didn’t help much. Once I even ended up in emergency care because I was scared with the poor data coming out of Suunto HR sensor and thought it was real.

I wonder if the quality of Suunto straps has improved recently? I like my Polar H10 but it may sometimes be uncomfortable in the middle of chest under the sensor and may cause a skin irritation on a longer run.

I have no longterm quality experience with a Suunto belt, which undeniably seem to be chafe-free, but I fixed the Polar (and previously Garmin) chafing with a sleeve made from old bicycle inner tubing. Even after a couple of hours running it then left only a slight reddening of the skin at the bottom edge:

If the spikes only are short ones at the beginning of an exercise, like in the graph you quoted, then they most likely are from static electricity built up in a dry tech material shirt. Those spikes disappear when the shirt get drenched by sweat.

@sky-runner the belt for the Suunto smart sensor had been updated a few years ago and the new contact material seems to be more reliable than the old one. You can tell them apart by the color of the rounded patch around the sensor contacts (black is old, grey is new). If you’ve never used the new one, it may be worth to give it a try.

                                @IceRim Thank you.

I used my Suunto Sensor yesterday. For the last 12 months I was using a Garmin HRM Pro. The Data I got from my Suunto Belt was horrible. Most of the time I had no Heartrate on the Watch, so I hoped it would sync afterwards, but what I got looked like this….
                                ![Bild Text](46b657fd-ec49-46e8-b00c-a3286a9836b4-image.png
                                Bild Link)

The Workout at the end seems ok, but way to high. The running intervals at the beginning showed no heartrate at all.
