New Aqua Headphones not giving any feedback
-
I have had my Aqua a week now 6 swims, comfortable light , stays in place during flip turns , even butterfly , sound underwater is pretty good. BUT BUT I have yet to get it do record any of the promised extra data on head position, glide etc , even after connecting to watch before swimming, selecting Suunto aqua as waiting for the little lady in the headphones to tell me to be still and hold my head straight while alignment takes just before beginning swimming. But no additional data on my Race S afterwards. Nothing, nada. Also was very finicky to connect with PC to download MP3 files and even though you can create playlists of offline music through your phone there just doesn’t seem to be a way to select them on the headset. I obviously don’t keep my phone on the deck. I have reached out t support and awaiting response.
Has anyone actually had real world experience of these for the swim data and some screenshots of feedback, as i’m having real concerns that they will work as described or did i just get sent a faulty set? Is the data stored on the headphones during the swim and then synced with watch via blue tooth at the end because i can’t see how they can stay connected whilst your are swimming -
@Pat-Fennell Hi, Unfortunatly no experience but a question: Did you use the dedicated Aqua App on your watch? Sometimes the Apps also capture specific data, so this could be a reason
-
@VoiGAS yes used the aqua app in watch and connected it to headphones before swimming, but I fail to see how it can stay connected thru the water whilst swimming. Thanks for your interest

I’ve used my Aqua headphones for two swims so far and I’m getting some issues as well, this is my feedback :
The bad :
-Once connection to the watch (SRs) is lost, say during streamline off the wall or hand with watch remained in water for a bit more time, noticing connection it’s never restored, headphones will continue to say “timeout error” endless times after that, and it’s annoying that this message also stops my offline music from playing and I have to press play again to resume music, but this will continue to happen throughout all my workout.
When you switch to Suunto + app screen, it will just show connecting and stay there no matter what. Don’t have a photo of this, but basically on above one, instead of the Aqua battery % it’d say connecting…Been using Aqua on runs to play offline music with no phone around and I’m continuing to hear timeout error endless times lol, and music is stopping from playing just like in the pool, sounds like a bad bug, as there is no S+ involved when running, so what timeout error
-once swim is sync from watch to SA , app will have just a fraction of Aqua metrics that are just incomplete, I’m guessing up to the point connection was good.
-when this connection is lost, Aqua will enter workout mode on its own and record stuff like if you didn’t have a watch around and rather tracking workout directly only with headphones. This can be seen by using SA and going up the my headphones section, tracking workout is turned on, to disable this you need to press buttons + and - together for 3 secs, once you do that, headphones will sync the recorded activity to the SA app and it’s going to be have all swim metrics, for some reason I’m getting two swims synced to the app, so I’d end with 3 workouts each time.
The good
- battery
- sound mode for swim
- offline music
- light in weight
- I’m replacing my wings with this one, I can listen to music and leave my phone at home for first time on a Suunto.
Wishes :
- this timeout error gets fixed in a firmware update.
- connection stability fixes in update so either if connection cannot by establishing, stop saying timeout error and do no stop Playlist.
-ability to discard record workout on the headphones alone if we don’t want to sync that. - why is it recording two workouts when connection to the watch is lost.
- improve algorithm, I don’t usually swim breaststroke, but I’m getting metrics for it.
- offline music mode is remember across restarts, looks like every time it’s defaulted to Bluetooth music and I have to change it to offline mode.
- Leaning to using is for just music play in the pool at this time until software gets a fix.

@herlas thanks very much for this detail, appreciated, looks like you have got a little further than myself but still not there, I have also seen the “connecting to aqua” screen and it never does, never got that other voice message .Fundamentally though if the headphones are reliant on a stable constant Bluetooth connection with the watch throughout the swim and not storing all the data for sync post swim , then they are literally “dead in the water” . I will wait another few days on the response from Suunto technical, but may have to look for an RMA. Pity because they are the best bone conduction headphones I have had for swimming but it seems they can’t deliver on the other stuff

@Pat-Fennell when connection to the watch is lost and never restored, the S+ app on the watch does records some partial metrics of the workout, when you sync the watch to the app, the resulting workout is showing these metrics up to the point it lost connection I suppose.
In your case, when you lose connection, once your workout is done, try to end the workout mode on the headphones by pressing both + and - buttons for 3 seconds. You should have something recorded directly on headphones as well, and it’ll be a separate swim session on the app, it’ll even show Suunto Aqua as the device used instead of your watch on the workout.
Also to your comment :
“even though you can create playlists of offline music through your phone there just doesn’t seem to be a way to select them on the headset”
For this to work, you’ll need to go to your headphones section in SA app, there’s a place to set shortcuts, set a combination that changes Playlists, that way you’ll be able to change them without your phone around.
I’ve set mine to this.
hoping software update help in managing better the connection to the watch.
Also, headphones can record workout metrics on its own by starting swim session mode by pressing same button combination + and - for 3 secs, if you’re doing this, do not use S+ app.
I’m still learning to use the device, sound quality is great as you said.
Good luck.

@herlas thanks very much, I’ll try out your suggestions for next swim
