Suunto Race S loses connection to iPhone

Recently bought a Suunto Race S and the Suunto smart heart rate sensor and loving it so far. However, on the 2 runs I’ve gone on so far, the after about 30 minutes the watch appears to disconnect from the phone. On the Suunto app it appears as disconnected but when I check the Bluetooth list on my iPhone it still appears connected. At this point I lose the media control within the activity on the watch and also always the heart rate no longer displays on the watch screen. This is strange since I thought the HR sensor does not need a phone to function together with the watch.
I wetted the electrode, made sure background refresh is enabled for the Suunto app on my iPhone and restarted both the phone and the watch prior to the run.
Has anyone had a similar issue or knows how to fix it? I’m loving the watch so far but this is quite annoying. Thanks a lot in advance!
