Some questions about Suunto Vertical ans Suunto App from a former user of Garmin
-
Good afternoon!!
I’ve been using my Suunto Vertical for a few weeks now, and I’m very happy with the watch. The physical design is unmatched, and the battery life is extraordinary.
Coming from many years of using Garmin, I miss some software features that I might not have found yet or that I wish were available on the watch, the app, or the web (which Suunto doesn’t have, but Garmin does). Of course, there are always alternatives.
The specific features I miss are:
-
Setting annual goals, e.g., running 1,000 km between two dates or completing 150 strength sessions within a specific timeframe.
-
A sports mode for strength training or calisthenics.
-
Run/Walk alarm (CaCo) in a running sports mode.
-
Live location sharing with selected contacts during an activity. I often run alone in the mountains, and this feature gives me extra peace of mind.
-
Vibration or signal when losing Bluetooth connection with the phone. This feature has been very useful with Garmin when I use my phone as a map while cycling or motorbiking, and then forget to pick it up after getting off.
-
Accident detection: In case of sudden stops or abrupt movements, Garmin can detect a potential accident and, if I remember correctly, after a period of asking if everything is okay, it sends an alert to configured contacts if there’s no response.
Thanks in advance!

At least for this I use my phone with an Android App called Real Time GPS Tracker, and there is someone developing an S+ App for this very purpose.

A sports mode for strength training or calisthenics:
look through all the activities. They are there. I use it regularly.
Vibration or signal when losing Bluetooth connection with the phone. This feature has been very useful with Garmin when I use my phone as a map while cycling or motorbiking, and then forget to pick it up after getting off : the watch does not rely on the phone for BT during an activity. So to my knowledge this is not possible.

Well, there is a strength training sportmode, which you can use and you can also create structured strength workouts, which can be helpful to follow your routine:
There is no automatic rep/set counting or something like that. I am personally totally happy with that. I use Gymbook for iOS for tracking my data awhich is a pay once (max. 10€) app.

Thanks you all, guys.
Some more questions:
Do you know of any way to set a different default Battery mode than “Performance” for a specific type of activity?
And while we’re at it, is there a way to have a Guide set as default in Suunto Plus?
I’ve created some Walk/Run intervals, but I have to activate them every time I start an activity.
Thanks in advance!

Press upper button, select sport mode, scroll down to „exercise options“, press crown, scroll to „battery mode“ and press crown again > select battery mode. Press crown and then „select“ (upper button). Then you can press back (lower button) to go back to the sportsmode, where you can start the activity

Thanks, Chris. I do that, but when I use again this type of activity, the battery mode is again at “Performance”, whatever I’ve chosen previously.

@Chema-López Try to create a Custom battery mode and select Custom battery mode. Then that mode is ‘saved’ as default for the sport mode.
-
@Chema-López as written you‘ll need a custom sports mode.
