Idle HR not working, possible bug.
-
@far-blue in my case no matter where the watch sits, the readings are wrong. Strange is that no matter the position, when an activity starts it records HR spot on after short time. So it’s not a thing with a watch placement, rather algorithm/bug.

@yaatzek With some other watch companies (not sure about Suunto), the OHR will be boosted during an activity as compared to the 24/7 readings. That is, the light output will be stronger to get a better reading. I’d guess that Suunto is doing the same.
Most of my 24/7 HR readings are pretty far off as well, unless I’m sitting still. Suunto used to only record HR every 10 minutes when not in an activity. To get continuous HR, I’d bet they had to dial back the intensity to optimize battery life. That’s probably why the daily readings are crap. Just guessing, though.

@duffman19 thank you for the reply but it’s to late, I returned the watch. It’s unacceptable. Since the beginning of using this watch I had different problems and when I finally figured out everything I noticed this strange behaviour. I switched from more then 2 years old garmin fr255 which worked flawless 24h. The HR readings were always spot on. I just don’t get it - how you want to compete with a big company releasing such flawed device.
I tried searching for solutions, writing here, contacted support - which told me to reset the device and if this doesn’t help, send it for repair.
I really wanted to try something new, but the watch couldn’t handle it’s main use case - reading HR and registering sport activities (I didn’t mention GPS was really bad compared to Garmin). -
@yaatzek well, considering that even Ray from DCRainmaker uses the Race S for GPS and HR comparisons against the newer Garmin models, I believe the watch is not exactly flawed, and works for many
-
@isazi you can find lot of information on the Internet and based on that I bought Race S. I respect the work of Ray but as you know wrist heart rate is very “person specific”. So maybe for him it works much better. But the reality with Race S for me was terrible. Maybe I got a faulty device or I had some bad luck, I don’t know. I am not a professional athlete but spending lot of money on a sport watch, which fails terribly at registering acitivities, is a red flag from me. I’m back to Garmin for the next few years.

@yaatzek feel free to visit this forum whenever you want, we accept everyone, the watch brand you use does not make who you are.
Enjoy your new watch!

Hi,
I recently purchased this watch after reading some positive reviews online. I have to say, it looks fantastic, and the navigation menu is impressive.
However, I’m experiencing significant issues with its performance:
-
Heart Rate Monitor: Approximately 50% of the time, the heart rate monitor displays inaccurate values, both at rest and during exercise.
-
Cumulative Ascent: I’ve noticed instances where the cumulative ascent shows absurd figures—like 3500 meters instead of the expected 1200 meters. This is quite concerning.
-
Connectivity Issues: I encountered a frustrating bug where the watch wouldn’t connect to my phone. Despite trying everything—restarting both devices, unpairing and repairing—the only solution was a factory reset, which resulted in the loss of my activity data and settings.
I’m really disappointed with these issues. It seems to be a software bug, and I’m hopeful that it can be addressed in a future update.

From last update to today. before last update i haven’t seen this behavior.
My OHR goes off and it doesn’t start anymore. It’s needed to power off the watch and then power on to work normally. Is there any configuration or any situation about HR is power off until a reset power?
Thank you.
-
@monatunes I’ve not heard anyone else report this but you could try turning off 24/7 HR monitoring and then turning it back on again in the settings. Maybe some of the config of the watch went squiffy after the update. Purely a guess.
-
@far-blue Thank you, yes it’s first action i’ve done “HR 24/7 turning off and then on again” but it doesn’t work. But the way, at the moment is working normally.
Another guess, when i didn’t use the watch, i left it with HR in contact on a paper. I had thougth, maybe, if HR gets irregular reads during long time then it’s turnning off HR after a reset power. I can try to reproduce it, for me its a little bug or malfunction of my unit.
Thanks a lot.

This is my second day wearing a newly purchased Race S.
Same issue, unfortunately.
As I sit here and type, the heart rate reading is 88.
There is no way this can be real, as my usual range is somewhere between 55 to 68.
This afternoon, I also tested exercise, and the HR monitor reading was all over the place; before I warmed up, it showed 120+, while my Apple watch read 60-70, and in the middle of exercise, it stopped getting my HR. The green light was blinking; however, it was in exercise mode.
I tried removing and re-attaching, resetting, and the trick of toggling on/off 24/7 monitoring; I really wanted to love this watch, but now I am in doubt.
I hope this is a bug that can be fixed by update. I will give it another week and decide if this is a return as well.
