@Kramble - charged and updated my wifes RACE last night, gave it a full charge until this morning at 7am and its running on its own reserves now. Lets see how long it goes with the ALWAYS ON display ticking over the time all day every day

@Александр-Даниленко We removed this feature because it was not working as expected. I think I had replied to you. Now it works as it all swim wall clocks work
Moreover, I can say the SuuntoPlus app “SwimTimer” working worse comparing to this clock screen.
I feel like there is a delay between actual rest beginning and when “SwimTimer” starts counting it. It is around 3-8 sec, because the watch need some time to calculate interval time/distance and only after that “SwimTimer” starts its rest counting.
The clock screen after calculation of interval time/distance just shown the moment when he think you stopped and on my experience it was more accurate for estimating your rest time.
Also, “SwimTimer” has a problem with set counting. I really don’t understand the logic, because it resets to 0 whenever he wants, even if you don’t change intervals distance and swimming style.
So I would say on my opinion, after using both, clockwatch and SwimTimer, in tens of my training sessions, I liked the clockwatch screen more. But now, when it’s main feature removed, I really don’t understand why we need the clockwatch screen.
However, still I would be really glad if Suunto “repair” it.

The reason why we see the clockwatch on the wall in the swimming pool, because some people don’t take the watch to the pool, especially professionals, but they need to count their interval/rest time somehow. But when you have watch on the hand, you don’t need that clockwatch anymore. Only if it doesn’t provide you anything new.
That red indicator, which shown you when you stop was that feature why we needed to use this screen.
Btw, Suunto could improve it by adding, for example, blue indicator, which could show you the moment, when you start interval.
In swimming training sessions there are 2 kinds of interval swimming:
- When you need to control you rest time.
- When you have a fixed time for each swimming+rest.
For example, if the main set is 10×100m and you pace is ~1’30/100m, in 1st case it could be 10×100m with 30s rest, in the 2nd case 10×100m with 2 minutes regime. So you start swimming 100m, end it and then start, when 2 minutes pass from the start of previous interval. So it is ~1’30+0’30=2 min. If you do 100m in 1’27, you will have 33s rest, etc.
I believe everything was working good, and Suunto had a room for improvements there. But instead…I really don’t understand what is the point.

@Александр-Даниленко In general these watches aren’t perfect for swimming - they also lack the drills mode which is helpful for example when you train legs only. Because of no arm movement the distance isn’t counted and cannot be manually adjusted (and it was possible in the Ambit series).

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
Thank you, I ran a quick check yesterday and it seems like the battery drain from navigation hanging is fixed.
https://forum.suunto.com/post/155242I reset the watch after the update to make sure i didn’t see a battery calibration error and only saw a 3% drop which is what I’ve experienced in the past after a similar day/ activity.
-
@kriskus yes, there are many other problems, which I described here:
https://forum.suunto.com/post/129066But it is not good, when company not only not fixing existing problems, but also creating new.
In general still I like suunto watch in swimming. For example, as far as I saw comparing with other users, suunto has better automatic intervals distance/time calculation, than garmin.

But it is not good, when company not only fixing existing problems, but also creating new
…with every new update

Any solution for this :
“Update started on watch (race s). I got an error message saying it failed and recovered. Now watch says it is up to date with version2.37.34 and will not let me try update again. iPhone app say watch software package download. For 2.37.48. …”
Is there a way to manually download and force this update?

@Antanas-V and @fritzbt2013
without being sure of what i will say, if i were in your case, i would try (at your own risk) :
1- see which FW packages are effectively in my watch.with the service menu (settings/general/about, then scroll down until the bottom, release button, and then long press bottom button)
2- if new FW is in watch, try to update from there (which i never did ). If it is not working, i would delete the new FW package from the same menu and go to point 3.
3- if new FW is not in watch, i would uninstall suunto app and reinstall it and retry FW update process. -
@Mff73 thank you! Success at step 2, appreciate the detailed instructions.

great. but now i am reading this again , i ask myself one question : if proper FW package was well in your watch, didn’t you have already access to the normal “update FW” menu in settings/general ?
-
@Mff73 I did. Initially it behaved normally and started installing the new version. After the update fail it showed with the greyed text( as u have shown) and if I selected it it would say I was up to date even though my version was the older one.
-
@fritzbt2013 same thing!

@Mff73 Thank You! Success at step 2, too.

@Александр-Даниленко @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos my vote here to bring it back, it was working fine for me as well. That swim wall clock screen is so epic, please bring the marker back .

SUUNTO RACE S / SUUNTO RACE / SUUNTO VERTICAL / SUUNTO 9 PEAK PRO
Staged update starting on October 2nd 2024
Bug fixes:
- Fixed cases where sleep tracking and OHR stopped working
- Fixed a case where pool swim distance was wrong in logbook
- Fixed a case where power consumption remained high after navigation
Only I have after this update problem with speed tracking? Today I wanted to track my trip in Italy (mountains and hard terrain) and all time it was showing 10-20km/h, while in phone (I downloaded some app) it was like 2-5km/h.

@Antoine Am noticing much the same, suunto vertical and in the first 12Hrs I dropped 1% from a full charge (Hr active + blood oxygen), no activity. Now that my day has started and wrist buzz is humming along nicely to the arrival of new emails and msgs… I hope to see less than 5% for today (including a 1hr gps activity).
Same configuration as you.
6% in 36h with one run of 50 minutes.
HR active, blood oxygen, only bip but no buzz, no backlight. No navigation tested yet. -
SPP9 Updated tonight…it recorded just 1 h of sleep…in the hope it was because the updating.

@karmazynowycukiereczek Silly question, but didn’t you confuse the unit of pace in min/km with speed in km/h? The result would more or less match if the first value is min/km and the second is km/h.
