SW update 2.37.34 Q3

“Improved capability to determine VO2Max. Should be easier to get the estimate now.” -> Did it get any easier for anyone? It’s still a no-show for me on Vertical even after 15 months. For comparison, S9B back then was a piece of cake. Down below you can see my latest running attempt.
Is there an updated list of certified requirements? I know I am fat and in bad shape, but I think I did fulfill all the requirements Suunto support listed me back a year ago. 15 minutes in or above Z3 with flawless GPS and HR. Well I can’t be sure about the flawlessness, but they both look good to me in Suunto App.
Does my run have to be above certain constant speed?
Can I even get the estimate with over 120 kg weight?
Am I supposed to hit the start button after I reach the red zone?
How long does it have to be? Time, km?The downward spikes are there because I just had to slow down a few times… Yeah yeah, I know it is just an estimate anyway and I should forget this stupid measure. But I have such fond memories: it used to correlate with my jogging feeling back then with S9B and I found it highly motivating to get the estimate up one decimal at a time. I hate it when either I am too stupid to use Vertical, or Vertical doesn’t want to co-operate as marketed.
Got my VO2MAX on a new Race S after about 1 week. So it should not be aproblem from App or OS

@BrunoH Overall however, your zones seem to be somehow strange - last zone which should be really for maximum effort is much broader than any of the three previous zones.
-
@kriskus that is because I am old, fat and in bad shape. I get to Z5 very fast. Maybe that’s the reason why I am not getting the estimate. My poor Vertical doesn’t believe there are guys like me
Perhaps I should try longer exercises by walking a bit faster instead of running because it exhausts me too easily.

@BrunoH
i am not an expert, but whatever the shape and the zones, Z5 should not be that huge. How much is your max HR ? You seems to be able to reach 180+ bpm while your Z5 seems to begin at 150/155, quite strange. -
@Mff73 I used a Norwegian University (NTNU) max HR calculator which takes into account the age, weight and how tall I am. According to that my max HR is 176 and that’s what I entered in my Vertical, but obviously in real life I can get over 176. My resting HR is set to 65, which is the value when I am sitting peacefully.
All the zone limits in between are the default values from Suunto.
max 176 100%
Z5 starts at 153 87%
Z4 starts at 144 81%
Z3 starts at 136 77%
Z2 starts at 127 71%Have I configured something wrong?
-
@BrunoH I had some trouble getting my head around all of this… So I started reading some of the material on the suunto website.
All in all… the generic formula does not work well. You have to make personalised stress tests to get the limits. Now with ZoneSense there is the argument that you can use this new inovative feature, and it will start reporting the thresholds for you without the need to perform and put yourself through the testing process.
-
@BrunoH
If the HR detected by the watch is correct, then your max HR should be at least 185 as you peaked over the 180 mark a few times. Those calculators are not that good at this. It’s hard to tell your real max HR without the lab test, but 185 should probably be close. -
@Prenj @SvenSchroeter @Mff73
Thank you everybody, I will adjust my max HR and the zones accordingly. I’ll try again in a few days. -
@BrunoH I got a little stressed about all this at the beginning… but stopped worrying about my MAX Hr, and looked more closely at the LTHR value and then worked backwards from there.
I based my LTHR on hard run efforts at 5km and 10km distances (as I repeat these periodically as part of my standard training approach).
The new innovative ZoneSense feature (Suunto +App) is giving me relatively close LIMITS to what I had set so all in all it seems to add up.
Plus I got the Hr Belt from Suunto to try and get the most accurate readings possible.
PS. I am a Male / 38Years old / LTHR = 165bpm (approx) and have a 182MAX HR according to the formula… but do not even come close to that during maxed out efforts (measuring with the HR belt).
But even if the data is not absolute, because there will always be some error in the measurements (we do not carry medical devices on our wrists) as long as it is repeatable we can use it as a baseline for general imrpvement metrics. Which is the goal of everyone I think… Personal improvement both physically and mentaly.
Have a nice day everyone.

@BrunoH
as @SvenSchroeter suggested, if you are using a chest strap with RR capabilities, you could try ZoneSense analysis while changing your zone.
Maybe set them as appropriately as possible with reasonable max HR according to your recent real max reached (you real max should probably be little more, but …) and then look at what zonesense is “telling” you. After a couple of trainings, (even if Zonesense is still quite unknown ) it might give you its indication of what YOUR zones could be. Up to you to correlate then with your feelings during activity ,etc… and tweak everything (if not doing real effort tests).
Enjoy your next fit journey. -
There may be a bug with the sounds for messages.
When I switch my race s tones/alarm to vibration, I still get a beep for incoming messages.
Or have I just not found the right setting?
-
@DirkM in addition to switching vibration on, also open the tones menu and set it to “all off”
-
@Egika That was my mistake. Thank you. But now I also get a vibration when I use the crown, which as far as I can see can’t be turned off like the sound for the buttons.
I think it would be nice to only have a vibration for the silent notification for incoming messages.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos initially when this screen was working properly, it wasn’t useless.
But now it is broken!
Before it was showing the moment, when you stop, so you could see your rest time (in the way I draw). But now it doesn’t (same with new 2.37.48 update).

@Tami999 Not a bug, these are design changes. I believe that color will be coming to some of the complications, this is the start and will make watch faces faster and easier to develop so they are not tied to firmware updates.
good to know there is still chance to see design improvements and get back the original solar harvest complication icon (as shown on Suunto official pics https://www.suunto.com/globalassets/productimages/suunto-vertical/suunto-vertical-titanium-solar-canyon/02_suuntovertical_titaniumsolarcanyon-perspective-c-14-watch-face.jpg?height=900&format=jpg)

Today i had a bug: when navigating in complications parameters for K14 display, my suunto vertical has restarted alone…

Happened to me too when I was testing new watchfaces twice. I cant remember which one I had during two time crashes, but its highly possible it was this new one K14. Gonna test and edit post.
-
I had a bug with alarms yesterday morning, but there’s no way I’m going to replicate it.
I woke up to the alarm, and mashed buttons to turn it off, but it continued going on for two minutes whilst on the normal watch face. Alarms were at 7:00 & 7:01.
God knows how this is replicable but something was up.

Since the last update which was supposed to bring the watchfaces to the store I have tried every single work around that has been suggested: soft and hard reset , deinstall app, since a thousand times, …… nothing helps! I am on iOS with a 9PP and I hate the standard installed faces…. App shows 0/4 faces installed …… Please Suunto take care of this……
-
@JanJ1968 not sure it can help, but… uninstall some sport apps. As for me, I had to sync my watch (race) for like 4 or 5 times, before I got the result
