Suunto Race S titanium
-
@daveathletic my local store finally has it listed, but it’s not available for order yet. it’s a matter of 1/2 weeks usually…
-
@ferns thank you, that gives hope at least, can’t wait for it to launch
-
How does this work at Suunto? Do they not have the same product line world wide? I’m just wondering as the Titanium version is, at least it looks like that on some socials, is already available in China but not in Europe.
I’m in kind of a small dilemma, well not particularly, but I don’t wanna buy a Race S and then see in 2 weeks or something that they have released a Titanium one. Is there anyone here who can give updates, news,…
Thanks for your answers. -
@daveathletic there is no doubt that the titanium version will arrive. So If I where you I would wait, whatever it last (considering it should arrive before end of year according to every informations that have been collected)
-
@Tieutieu thanks for your reply, yes, I’m having the same feeling, just very impatient
Well, hoping that they drop it soon. -
@daveathletic May I ask why? Titanium will be 100€ plus and this is in relation to 7g weight less ( and the normal Race S is already very light)
Or is it about the color of the bezel? -
@VoiGAS just the look, like you mentioned the color and bezel look very appealing to me.
The standard Race S already looks pretty amazing, but what I saw from the pictures so far, I would appreciate the Titanium even more. -
and you all are sure that we dont have saphire glas on top!?
-
@GiPFELKiND I thought I would have a problem to step down from sapphire on the 9P. But the Race S glass feels much better on touch control and collects less fingerprints in my opinion. Also regardind to a comparsion with the Race (Sapphire) the Race S screen is more vibrant.
So maybe the Gorilla Glas is a step up - not down - for an AMOLED touchscreen. -
@VoiGAS yes, after owning it for a few days, it feels so good and looks so good! Coming from S9P Race S way more easy touch and kreps cleaner
-
@suuntastic I guess they are waiting for Fenix 8 and Apple Watch releases to settle before dropping this watch.

It is currently being sold in China. -
On Reddit someone mentioned that they be selling it in Russia and Hongkong is rolling it out by the end of October.
-
@daveathletic Thats a strange go to market strategy for a finnish company…
-
@VoiGAS can’t figure that out either. Don’t know how they handled it with the normal Race, if it also was selling first in Asia and so on…
Do they not do worldwide releases all at once or is this too much in terms of capacity??? -
@Jin-Kim Online shopping malls such as Jingdong and Taobao in China are currently selling the titanium version as well, and until August 31st, the new strap of the UTMB version was sold at a slightly cheaper price along with the titanium version.
The titanium version has two strap options, white and dark charcoal. It has the same shape as the Suunto Athletic 5 strap, so it has many diagonal hatched holes, is transparent, and looks more breathable.
The measured body weight of the titanium version is 35g, and the stainless steel version is 42g.
So it is exactly 7g lighter.https://youtu.be/ze_Typej9Cg?si=GfYyqkJZ09YGc4Cw

@daveathletic I think the race s titanium version is all made in china and was released first because the suunto market in china is relatively large.
-
@JVMT74 It is currently being sold in China.
-
lol. Never thought I would associate a Suunto watch with a need for screen protector but it seems even the video is advocating to use one if you need. I am guessing the titanium model also has gorilla glass, which is a shame. Such are the times under current ownership.
-
@altcmd the Suunto portfolio has different models with different features.
There have always been super tough and rugged models and also more entry level ones.
I think this is standard product management and not ownership dependent.
Look at Suunto 5 or Suunto 3 for example. And even Ambits were available with both sapphire and plastic screens. If you are looking for sapphire, there are Race, Vertical and S9PP in the current lineup with this kind of screen. It totally makes sense to have a more cost effective offer that saves on this kind of feature.
btw: my Race S has taken quite a beating since beginning of the field test and the screen is pretty much unaffected.P.S.:
If you had lived in China, you would know that most Chinese people leave the protective plastic even on the car touch screen etc…
