Battery drain

I’m probably on the lucky side, as I didn’t’ experience such a drain, on the contrary, yesterday under a scorching sun my Vertical went from 96% to 100% in almost half an hour (in watch mode, not recording any activity)
… if I stayed more than that in the open, I would have ignited -
Hello @martintrail ,
I have same issue. I suspect HR rate monitoring H24 to play a role. Suspicious behavior I observed : when I wear the watch at my wrist, I see that the green diodes are flashing for more than one minute a row, without stopping. I can see that by just raising a little bit the watch and seeing the green light. When I remove the watch from my wrist, the green diodes stop flashing.
Can somebody confirm the normal behavior is that the green diodes only keeps lighting for 10/15 seconds max, then stop for 10 to 15 seconds, then lights again?
Thanks,
Gilles -

I also had the battery drain problem on race. I contacted support who took me through a series of procedures.
First they made me do a soft reset after turning off a series of functions.- Brightness: Medium
- Standby: deactivated
- Raise to Wake: bass
- Backlight: Off
- Mobile notifications: Off
after 24 hours if it didn’t work they recommended a hard reset and finally if it didn’t resolve it they said to send the watch for repair. However, it seems that for most cases an update will be released that will solve the battery drain.
Unfortunately I had to send my race in for repairs.
So, based on these indications meant for SR, I did a test for my SV. The first one performed poorly, but battery consumption slowed down. I did a second one following the missing instructions (another post by the same author). In 24 hours (including sleep tracking and HVR), the battery loss is only 1%, which is how it used to be in my case. But I prefer to wait one more day just to be sure, because my previous experience showed that after two days the battery drained quickly again (13-15% per day with no activity and no functions running in the background). Tomorrow, the day after tomorrow latest, I will let you know if this procedure indicated in the quoted post worked 100%. There is some hope.

@Gilles-D That is completely normal behavior for the green LED to flash continuously as the watch measures heartrate against the skin. When the watch is removed it uses a proximity sensor and will turn off the LED strobe.
Also, my battery usage was around 3% daily with 24/7 hr/SpO2 with firmware 2.33.14.
Now I am around 7-10% daily consumption with firmware 2.35.34 with no changes in my settings (just for reference). -
@Antoine-Lancrenon I also think this is the issue, a UI flow issue that blocks and drain the battery.
I haven’t noticed any weird battery drain after the lates update. However, this week, I had something exactly like that. One morning I noticed that my SV’s touch screen was not working and had lost 6-7% of battery during the night (let’s say ± 8 hours, of course no activity), whereas a regular day for me a burning between 4-6% (including an activity).
I did a soft reset and it fixes the issue and the battery consumption went back to normal.
This is not the first time the UI (touch) was not working or was very unresponsive but last time I had this problem was long time ago, probably not in last 3 to 6 months (at least that I have noticed it).
I also think it is some flow that error’s or crashes, causing some high cpu usage, leading to a high battery consumption and blocking other flows (UI).

I said I had no complaints, but I really must take it back…
For a while I had absolutely great battery performance. I had drained the battery all the way down to 0% and then recharged. After that the performance was just awesome.
Then yesterday came the map updates and I attached my Vertical to the charger at 28% (-> full recharge) and now I am again 10% down from yesterday. Spooky!
-
@BrunoH i had the same experience. 10% drain/day after the latest update. After a few charge cycles and restart battery consumpion went back to normal.
Now when i updated the maps and charged to 100% i got the same problem. Almost 10%/day -
Somewhere here I noted info that the battery issue is resolved and the fix will be in the next firmware update, but that’s a month old message so I don’t know where its stuck

maybe not stuck but maybe carefully investigated/fixed/tested before
somewhere also it is noted that there seems to be no obvious pattern and not all users are encountering this --> investigation might not be easy

@BrunoH That exact problem happened to me.
After update: battery drain --> battery recalibration --> problem solved
Maps download (battery charge from 60% to 100%) --> Battery drainTwo weeks ago I performed another battery calibration and problem seems solved again…
Wi-Fi connection could be the problem? After map download I soft reset the watch and deactivate Wi-Fi connection.

At the control panel we find the battery percentage. It would be great an update to include more info, like a widget or simple click on battery percentage icon to present:
- current %
- last time it was recharged
- % when last recharged was initiated
- % when last recharged was ended
- a prediction when next recharge will be required, based on drain for a selectable period (3 days, week, month).
- draining graph using recharging date x %.
This would help us to detect draining activities or functions.

@diogao13 i had posted in the past that suggestion. a battery widget sounds great! But our watch is not a phone. I am currently interested in it because I have drainage issue. than I think I will forget it!
i start getting drainage after maps update/download also. (after a hard reset, where the first day was perfect, than I download first maps) Could be related -> Suunto, here is an information I think to pinpoint the issue.
For now, I recommand to soft reset the watch after what ever update you do: change watch face, download new maps etc.
soft reset is the only thing that stops the drain. and a good calibration (only once) I guess.hope next update will fix this. there is a background process that is being Triggered somehow (with maps, navigation, change watchface) and only a soft reset is killing it.
I am back to normal drain, but still have desactivate the HR24 and sleep tracking, no wifi discovery, no notification… i will try to turn one by one on again after this charge cycle.

I agree that all bugs must be fixed.
However, my suggestion is not to forget a bug fix, but to go further. Why not improve the system to have it better even without any bug?
For example, with my suggestion it will be easy to find that a new setting in the watch start to drain battery faster. Within this in mind, the user will be able to test it and suggest a fix or an improvement to the system, depending on the situation.
Battery management or watching tool allow us an easy way to find related bugs.

I reply miself, an update:
Problem seemed solved until today: yesterday I finished my training in the morning with 62% battery level. In the afternoon I swapped watches, swapping to Race S, so Vertical stayed in the drawer until this morning: 32% battery left, without activity and without use. HR not working. So it seems that something (or some process) that drains battery is triggered again.

I have experienced the same battery drain than all of you 6-7% every night since the last update even tho I didn’t change any setting, HR sensor ON, watch in plane mode.
However, I think the battery drain is similar during an activity, but I also noticed a huge drop in battery right after a long activity. For example last weekend I recorded a 7h long hike resulting in a battery drop of around 15% but in the following hours after the activity I lost around 10% in 3 hours.Other strange behaviour:
If I don’t wear the watch for a couple of minutes, the HR sensor is turned off and when I put back the watch on my wrist the green led stays off even if the HR sensor is supposed to be ON and I have no HR recording. I have to manually turn the sensor OFF and ON in the widget.Something weird about the plane mode also, if I turn off and on my watch while it is in plane mode I can’t synch it with my phone anymore. I have to deactivate the plane mode for my phone to synch with the watch, but if I go back in plane mode right after I am able to synch the watch even in plane mode.

@Bouli35 For me the problem seems mostly to be present after a night of sleep (3-4% drain compared to <2%) before. During daily routines everything seems to be more or less alike, even during a 24hr GPS tracking exercise last week I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary (~40% of battery loss).
Hope devs are looking into this as well, since it’s also a shame that we are exhausting our battery life by charging it more often. -
@jjorgemoura I have 2 cases where battery drain
- touch screen stop working, very glitchy, only button work, and back light always on… did a soft reset. (third times it happens since new update) seems to trigger while in watch mode… nothkng in particular.
- other drain issue, watch working as usual, great. but only noticing> 10% daily without activities… this happens after an update of watchface, or adding new offline maps etc. and seems to be more common of the complaints here.
since last soft reset, i have a good consumption of battery. well see.

Hello everyone.
As a new owner of Suunto VTS i will share my case with you. I own the watch since last three weeks. First week watch was working great , three short running training and at the end of the week battery droppped 8% only.
On week 2 i have meet my family- uncle owns SV and all was good until the moment when we went for few hours hiking. Next day our batteries were 25% less than a day before, his and my watch too. We do not have sunset/sunrise turned on our watch face. We were both using GPX file to navigate on our trail. To me it looks like since we stopped hiking the GPS remained ON all the time.
I think i have solved my issue by a soft reset as i lost only 1% over the night with watch on my wrist .
He just charged his SV to 100% today and will monitor through the day. -

So let me do the same as my predecessor, I will update my previous post. I regret to report that my test failed. During the two days, everything was ok, since yesterday morning the battery began to drain rapidly again (practically everything running in the background was turned off). I hope that Suunto will quickly solve this problem, because it’s really difficult to concentrate on workouts (especially long-distance ones) looking around constantly for a charger, especially since the latter is not among the practical and convenient ones.

@WlodiPawel-87 Thanks for information. Normally 2 days after watch reboot or restart (I don’t know why people keep calling it “soft reset”…) the battery draining will return. Let us know after this period.
