@Egika, even multiple “Power PODs”?

But as isazi indicated, maybe Suunto plan to try and squeeze it all into the one app. Let’s see. I guess.
Let’s see, after more than 6 years in production Suunto app doesn’t have a notion of gear and gear tracking such as shoes, for example. Which you can totally track in Garmin or Strava, for example. And even in Stryd.
We still have one Bluetooth sensor per type. You can make a convoluted argument for having just one heart rate strap. But how are you going to deal with two first stages pods in sidemount, for example? Oops. Should people have one wetsuit and one mask too?
The requirements for gear tracking on dive side are far, far greater. Regs, tanks, BCDs, weights, fins, masks, wet- and dry-suits. You want to log tank pods and tanks used, so you can have your SAC rates. You want to keep track of dive buddies and dive masters. You want to track weights used on different dives, so you can fine-tune your buoyancy in specific conditions. Recent trend is to add certifications and certification specialty skills to specific dives, like deep, wreck or night. This is what MacDive has been doing and Garmin Dive added. And that’s just rec level scuba log. Throw in a nicety such as a map of diving locations, perhaps, a location database, a competent dive planner – and I’m starting to question how it’s gonna all get stuffed into a single app. Worse still, how that app would work for somebody who has activities on land, but also scuba dives, and wants to see both.
For gear tracking, use tags, they are much more versatile and will track an unlimited amount of gear. Tags are searchable so Suunto has gear tracking enabled, maybe not what you thought.
-
@Brad_Olwin Sadly no. If I track shoes, I want to track distance on those shoes. I suppose you can use the summary report feature to search by tag and aggregate by year to get total distance… but it’s many steps for something Garmin, Strava, and Stryd give you instantly. They also warn you when mileage reaches end of life. Not to mention I can compare shoes in terms of how many miles I end up doing in which models, something you can’t do with the Summary report at all as it doesn’t support grouping by tag.
Likewise, my BPW has a 4 lbs steel plate, that counts as 4 lbs weight while a jacket BCD won’t have any. Sure I can track both via tags, but it wouldn’t let me answer a question of “how much weight I had with that setup?” Because a) there’s no way to track diving weights and b) you can’t specify some equipment like BCD has weight and it should be added to the total. Subsurface Dive Log does it quite intelligently.
The larger question though, an elephant in the room, isn’t really whether you can hack your way around with existing features like tags or comments. It’s whether you want to.
If Suunto is serious about maintaining their diving side of things, they would have to provide a DM5 level of competency in the app. And once they do, they might discover having a separate diving app might be cleaner and more efficient. Even for rec divers doing simple rec diving stuff.

@Brainicus I track my gear and shoes with tags. I prefer tags to both Garmin and Strava. I guess a different opinion. I find tags far more flexible

By the way has anyone noticed that when you have GPS enabled (at least for freediving), but maybe it is also for swimming, etc, that distance that you swam is way off in the suunto app ?
I did a couple of spearfishing sessions with gps enabled and at one time the app said i swam for 10 meters(!!!) and yesterday it said 400+ meters when a I swam at least twice as that. In both cases, the route is correctly marked on the map in the app, but the distance is completely off.
I have similar problem. Mapps track is good, but it lost some meters.
BTW how to check how meny meters from the mappbox? I can only see registration meters, but i know it’s not accurate. -
Small number of watch face. I need more information on the screen.
2nd No nap time, only sleep time, I’d like to registration nap time during the day (sometimes I have some). -
Other thought after few weeks of using this watch:
I didn’t had storm alert despite storm was neraby me, and came after few minutes. -

UPDATE on the issue.
It seems that this is a watch bug and not the app.
Yesterday, i went for another spearfishing session.When i got back and ended the activity i checked the report on the watch, and it said i swam for 1.22 km.However the distance is twice as that ( i even cross checked in google earth), at about 2.5km.It seems that for some reason it didn’t “catch” the return, or something.
The route on the map is correct as you see on the screenshot, but the distance on the watch is not.

Awesome. This watch was made for me. Do any of the testers know if the OHR works at depth to record heart rate while SCUBA diving?
Yes it tracks heart rate during a dive but must not be over your wetsuit.
-
Just completed a week of diving with the ocean, logging 20 dives.
All were single gas no decompression profiles using EAN32 and conducted primarily in daylight.
Screen was easy to see in all conditions including bright sun.
Battery life was excellent.
Clean,.easy to read display with clear warnings and alerts.
The back end is missing features garmin and others offer: longer sms text, contact payment, etc.
Very cumbersome.to.add maps.or.features…

- the worse thing: when i dive in germanies lakes i usally use a 7mm half dry neopren. However since my arm is already quite big the normal strep with 230mm won’t fit anymore after adding 14mm more to my arm’s diameter, for the D5 there was a strap extention for dry suits available but due to the D5 having a 24mm and the Ocean having only 22mm thats not compatible. Will there be a 22mm extention for the ocean?
Greetings
SvenAfter reading this, I bought a 22mm extension strap for dive, but it doesn’t fit well. Suunto strap size is strange. The strap is 22mm at the connection portion, while is 24mm on its length.

@Patrick-Löffler-0 we can expect the Ocean getting some (all?) of the Race features, but not sure when. A quarterly release cycle for this watch is probably not happening.
It is good. But at the dive side, can we expect the Ocean getting all of the D5 features:
- MOD;
- More info on the screen;
- Dive customization through the app;
- Compass;
- Locking the bearing;
- Dive planner?
-
I am ready to purchase the Ocean, but I’m undecided between All Black and Stainless Steel because I’m concerned about scratches showing up on the Black watch. If you own the Black version, can you share how well the watch stands up to scratches and whether they are very visible?
-
I’ve got it for a month. However no scratches yet.
I’m very careful with my watches.i had a couple of light bumps on doors, but it didn’t get any scratch.

Hi,
I bought SO to use as a dive computer. I have been using it for 3 weeks. I have made 8 dives. However, I was very upset on the first dive when I learned that there was no dive compass. Then I realized that I could not calculate NDL for the second dive. Except for my two dives, it did not produce the dive route of my other dives. I hope that these features will be in the next update. -
I still don’t know how, but mine got the saphire cristal scratched in the first dive. Now I’m using a 43mm protection glass.
-
@diogao13 Thats so bad! I bought Vertical at end of 2023, used protectors, but got scratches after few days, max 1 week, than I throw it away, and using since with 0 scratches. I hit my Vertical so many times in metal parts at work, edges etc. (daily watch 24/7) and only bezel got scratches. Screen seems 100% brand new. You must be really unlucky or hit sharp rock on Your Ocean.
-
@Tami999, yeah that’s bad. i don’t know where it was. I took all care, but when I was in the boat I noted the small scratches.

Can you please post a picture of your problem?
as far as I can see, the only official solution is the extension strap 22mm (compatible with the D4i), and by some logic the full scuba length strap for the D5 (24mm) would not fit.
as you noticed, the Ocean is declared as 22mm, but that’s just a groove, the strap is 24mm wide along its entire length.
And the straps for the D5 are defined as 24mm and they are through the “flat” groove and are 24mm wide along their entire length (at least that’s what I concluded from the pictures).
They did a great job of making the straps incompatible with each other
It’s really sad that a diving watch can’t be used for diving out of the box, (slightly thicker hand, 7mm semi-dry suit + gloves), but you need to determine what you need to buy in order to use the watch normally.
-
See the original strap:
Connection portion width
Strap widthI believe D4i will fit, since the extension strap is full 24mm.

I agree

What 22mm extension strap you bought that doesnt fit well? For D4i (OEM) or some 3rd party manufactured? (Aliexpress etc).
Can you take picture of that extension conected to original SO strap?
Thanks in advance
