Bike Pod - Speed or Cadence or..?
-
Hi all
My bike is fitted with a speed sensor and a cadence sensor.
It seems like I can only connect one of those at a time, since both are seen as a bike pod.
Is that right? I’ve not managed to get both cadence and sensor speed (e.g. by disabling GPS) with my Vertical, as it seems to detect one or the other but not both.
The irony is, the “bike pod” that gives cadence, asks for the wheel circumference, which is only needed for a speed sensor.
So I’m confused.
Anyone else? -
@mickywickyftw this is my specialist subject. Here are your options:
- Do nothing, continue as you are.
- Don’t pair to any sensors; ignorance is bliss.
- Buy a combined speed/cadence pod (Suunto made a branded one, but any of them should work). You’ll get to experience trying to make it fit on your bike frame, futzing with magnets that slip and cause your watch to think you’re not moving…
- Buy a WYUR: it’s a really cool thing from NPE that can combine your existing speed and cadence sensor’s data streams into something your watch believes is the anachronistic bike pod. If you have to record bike data to your Suunto, this is the only option that will leave you with your sanity and personality intact.
- Buy a bike computer.

Well summarized and reflects my experience.
I chose the bike computer option and simply sync to Suunto via Run Gap.

@Ze-Stuart ah well. I’ll stick to the cadence sensor and keep using GPS for speed… Thank you for summarizing the options! This is a post for… posterity

@mickywickyftw I think the WYUR is a really good compromise, but it’s another €70 or so.
Enjoy the ride! I think that’s the most important part.
