I need a break from Suunto! :-(

Just my 2c but I feel like you probably have a faulty watch. and it sounds like itās still within the warranty period to send it back. If I were you thatās what Iād be doing
FWIW all of the the updates to my SV have gone smoothly, no issues or crashes. Only a few days ago I placed my trust in it to navigate safely up and down a 1600m mountain, very thankful I had it to hand otherwise I defintely would have gone off course. Stability and reliability are also paramount to me, hence why I ditched the Garmin Enduro, COROS Apex and Wahoo Elemnt Rival for the SV. If yours is in warranty itās a no brainer, send it back for a refund or replacement. Keep us posted MF

@MiniForklift To be honest, I donāt believe itās a faulty watch but rather poor memory management depending on your personal configuration. Please read the other posts that are coming one by one. again the āno mapā problem etcā¦ these canāt all be faulty watchesā¦ I really like the Verticalā¦ also can draw comparisons to Coros Vertix, Garmin Epix2pro etc. At the moment I canāt and donāt want to rely on the vertical. Iām hoping for a quicker update this timeā¦

@Brad_Olwin I think that crashing during workout is just the edge worst scenario of no-map issue which got even worse after last update. It is NOT about wrong hardware piece or corrupted map segment. There are probably some operations on maps which stuff cache memory up, not only impacting maps but causing whole range of other issues: from frozen HR reads, widgets malfunctioning, up to ultimate crash. It can happen to everyone and to every vertical watch, just need certain pattern of maps operations to manifest

@Majkel-Paszeko How could you know this? Do you develop the code?
We are trying to help here. @Sascha-Domres if you want help as @freeheeler and I have stated many times. Send logs to Suunto ASAP after a crash. PM either me, @freeheeler or @isazi with your email for Suunto app login, the date and the time logs were sent. We will forward a report.
Your other option is to contact support but the first option is more direct. As @freeheeler and I stated the testers are not simply using watches as if we bought them. We test many different scenarios with several watches. There are quite a few testers and likely a large internal test program as well that we donāt know much about. @Sascha-Domres you either have a faulty unit or something unusual is causing crashes. If you donāt want help we cannot help you. I think crashing during activities is a serious problem. We would like to get this resolved.

@Brad_Olwin Hello everyone, I would like to make it clear that I am not criticizing the testers but rather the result of the update. I have already sent logs in the past and am grateful that the testers here in the forum are trying to take care of the matter. I donāt think itās a hardware problem but rather poor memory management. Therefore, I believe that simply sending in the watch is not effective. The whole forum here is full of reports of ERRORS and similar things are reported on other channels. Of course Iām annoyed because at 800 euros and 6 months without an update the expectations increase. Especially if problems like āNo Mapsā occur again. Every watch is configured differently and everyone uses the watch differently. The solution is not that the user now has to send logs, but rather that the internal test program is improved. These are no longer isolated cases but dissatisfaction is increasing. This should be alarming for Suunto.

@Sascha-Domres buy a less complicated watch like the 9peak or 9pp.

about 20 hours agoI need a break from Suunto!
Honestly, I am a very patient person and understand that many things take time and only partially mature or can mature with the customer. Now Iāve waited months until Suunto released a new update for the Vertical and unfortunately Iām totally worn out and annoyed. All I hoped for was stable and reliable software. What can I sayā¦installing the new software worked well and yes, the UI is faster. But unfortunately the Vertical has already hung up twice and that during simple walksā¦ I could really pukeā¦ Iām tired of always doing a soft reset to solve possible RAM problems. First and foremost, I want a reliable watch ! What if this happened to me in the mountains or in areas where I really need the data from the watch? I really wonder what is being tested for 6 monthsā¦ Isnāt there a stress test for the memory or CPU? Please please stability and reliability is what it is most importantly!! And please no comments, everything is fine for me, I have never had problems like this. Please get out of the bubble and look at other channelsā¦ the comments are full of similar problems!! I know this is one Suunto Forum and not Suunto directly, but there are testers here who have a good connection to Suuntoā¦ So maybe this feedback will be passed onā¦ how does Suunto advertise
āSome people choose average ā but adventurers need something they can trust.ā I trust the 30 second reset at the moment!!I think you should contact Suunto Team for they make debugs of those crashes and find issue(s) from logs. Can be a HW failure, because many of other users donāt have that sad experience with new fw for Vertical.
To be completely transparent, never experienced in any Suunto watch an
inconvenient reboot (ambit3, Spartan Sport, 9, Peak, Vertical and Race). -

There are countless cases, so it is almost impossible for a group (5? 10? who knows!) of testers to catch all the bad behaviors of the sw. It would be nice if the fw were extended to more selected people. The more of us the better for discovering bugs to speed fw releases. Iām pretty sure most of the silly bugs would be fixed.
-
@westie What do you mean by countless cases? In forums like this one folks who have issues mostly respond. Suunto likely has some idea of issues/items sold as neither I nor others here have that data. The testers here report bugs, after that how Suunto decides to change/fix is up to them and we are not informed. It is possible that a minor issue that does not affect usability of the device would be difficult to fix and will change with an update coming. it likely depends on resources and plans.
For example, there is a thread on Black Grid maps to report location only. Despite the numerous complaints the number of reports in that thread is surprisingly low. I imagine a watch crashing is even less. I am not trying to diminish this issue as I think it should be a top priority IMHO. However, if it is a hardware problem, no firmware change will fix it and we simply do not know. -
@Brad_Olwin I am sorry but I think you misunderstood me and unfortunately my english is not very good either! I meant that it is impossible for the tester to test every possible configuration so as to catch hidden bugsā¦ I know the testers also make a great work of skimming bugs!
-
@Brad_Olwin Of course, a lot of what you say is correct. And thank you again for your commitment. However, it is also the case that Suunto does not have good communication. I know this much better from Coros, for example. Take a look at the comments on FB, Instaā¦ sometimes the exact same errors are posted there and the users are annoyedā¦ I also know that people are more likely to share bad experiences than good ones. Weāre not talking about hardware problems like bubbles on the HRM sensor or something similar. These are actually isolated casesā¦ Weāre talking about software bugsā¦ and in the case of software or memory problems, a bug fix after 6 months isnāt exactly a good service. Of course, developers and programmers need usable data. Maybe the key or the solution lies hereā¦ where you can report problems more easily. I think the forum here is great and Iām grateful for all the tips you get here. However, this forum is probably unknown to the masses and the users are here because they are looking for help. So the user is looking for help and can only get it here With Coros, for example, you can upload videos about your problem via Facebook Messenger. There was feedback and the most important thing was an update or bug fix every 1 to 2 months. There is no transparent feedback from Suunto itself āwe are working on itā it is knownā So no offenseā¦ in my case I have now done a factory reset and completely new furnished. I hope this makes my problem a thing of the pastā¦
