Welcome!
I have not written a review or similar. Am ready to answer questions though and have already done that in other threads
Short in short: After wearing Race on one arm and Vertical on the other for some weeks now, Vertical will soon become the watch left on the drawer at home. The screen of Race is so vivid, it is just fun to use.
Only for ski touring in the coming winter I will most likely take the Vertical, as I think that under those bright conditions the display is at least on par and the less protruding buttons are better suited for those layers of clothes, wearing it on top of the sleeve and/or glove operation. -
@Egika Thatās great to hear - I have a few questions if you donāt mind. I briefly used the Garmin 255 and it is nice but the MIPS display wasnāt bright enough for me. I am excited to finally get a worthy successor of my trusty ambit 2.
- I read about speed of the device, did you notice much? It looks ok in some of the videos online.
- How is the weight and size of the watch? My wrists arenāt the largest so I was curious if it was comfortable to wear all the time esp. sleeping
- I donāt care too much for music or NFC, anything else of note that you missed about the watch?
-
After an unsuccessful attempt to buy the titanium version, I have had the steel version for two days, but I am still curious whether the two versions differ only in weight and color or whether there are also differences in GPS and OHR accuracy.

It is only weight, eMMC memory and color.
GPS is the same. OHR could be different to the titanium version being lighter and thus having less inertiaā¦ -
@Egika Are you sure that the housing material (titanium vs. steel) will not affect GPS accuracy? And the difference in weight may affect the HR reading.

yes

thatās what I wrote

@Egika i think Verticalās GPS accuracy is slightly better than the Race? because āSimultaneous satellite systemsā for Vertical is 5 and Race is 4. In challenging environment Vertical should be better than the Race
-
Ti version is now available in Sunnto store Italy, I have just bought one!
-
@babychai if this is not only a typo. let me check.

@ChrisA the frustration lies in that it was advertised as in stock, with 1-2 days turn around. In my case, I am in one of the markets where titanium is/was āavailableā. I ordered on launch day. Since then I have not received a single piece of communication of where the watch is. Suunto chat says they have no idea what the status is or any indication what is going on. I find today that my credit card has been fully charged. I reached out to Dan Suher (head of Suunto North America), he responds that the Canadian market should be good to go. Would you be satisfied?

As you mention ski touring: How will the the new crown of the Suunto Race behave when worn under a Jacket (for skiing or ski touring)?
- What is the function of the crown during a training?
- Is there a chance that the training will be interrupted or ended by accidentally pressing the button under the jacket?
- Will the crown also be locked, when locking the buttons during a training?
Thank you

Like middle button before: press to cycle the screens.
And in map view rotate to zoom the map.
Long press for options (where rotating the crown goes through the options menu)- Is there a chance that the training will be interrupted or ended by accidentally pressing the button under the jacket?
The crown button: not really. Training will only be interrupted with the top button as before. And actually the Raceās top and bottom buttons seem to be a little less protuding.
But there is a chance to change settings unintentionally by a series of long pressing, then rotating and pressing the crown again (see above).- Will the crown also be locked, when locking the buttons during a training?
Yes. Like middle button before. With button lock you can still press the crown to advance through the screens. Rotation (like in map screen) and long press will be locked.

Thank you very much.

@colinmacdon youāre right, thatās a bad customer experience and Suunto US isnāt doing a good job here. I canāt say that I had any problems like you, whenever I communicated with Suunto. Be it ordering or returning watches, everytime things went fast and without glitches. I donāt know on which date the launch in the US was, but here in Europe it was October, 17th (I guess) and if thats the same as in the US its ājustā a week - perhaps everything gets ok or at least you get a status within the next week. I understand, that you want to be informed, but at some point I would rely on the saying that āthe grass wonāt grow faster, when you pull on itā and just wait and set myself a duedate when I would go a step further, like cancelling my order and asking my credit card company not to pay the money finally separating this from āmyselfā and not letting this thing capture my thoughts all the time.
-
@bobson frustration lies with the fact that there is zero communication from suunto and when you try to use their chat support it is useless.

I have ordered the Titanium model on Amazon, because I had a gift card. Initially the delivery date was 18th or 19th of October. In the evening of the 19th I got an email from Amazon, that delivery is delayed until 15th Nov - 28th Dec. So I guess they have no idea when it will be available. I have never worked āin productā or something like that. I have no idea how difficult a worldwide launch of a product like this is. But I guess there are a couple of things that can go wrong, and they went wrong with this product launch.
As a loyal Suunto customer I am disappointed by this performance. But I am not angry or something like that. It makes me somehow sad, that things are just not working out for Suunto. To me it seems, that with the SR Suunto has finally caught up in various aspects to the competition. And now they screw up the product launch. Unbelievable.
The problem I see is, that the Polar Vantage V3 is the main competitor. And this watch launches tomorrow (25th). There might be a lot of people who will order the Polar instead of the Suunto, just because it will be available (Sapphire and Titanium is not important to everyone, and the V3 is a lot lighter). Or maybe Polar also screws up the V3 product launch? -
Iām sorry, but I donāt really understand why everybody keeps talking about ālaunch failureāā¦
The SR seems very promissing, and I would say it is a launch success ! Perhaps the only reproach we could make to Suunto is not to have believed enough in the sales level they should have expected at launch ! And so the support is probably overflooded !
The Black version is available and shipped since it was launchedā¦
The Titanium is coming few days after launchā¦
Other colors have never been officialy announcedā¦
I ordered the Wing the day of launch, and have received it the very next day !I remember reading threads where people were mentionning that some other brands were specialists to launch products way before they would be availableā¦
Not so long ago all what you could hear was that Suunto was finished, not in the game anymoreā¦and now everybody wants a Race !!
Hope you guys will receive your watches soon ; Iām sure that first orders (at least orders made throught Suuntoās website) will be the first to be delivered !

@Tieutieu I have to agree with youā¦ maybe we have all fallen to the instant gratification needsā¦ think back 10+ yearsā¦ we wouldnāt even know it was comingā¦ and now because we are not instantly gratified - in most cases reasons we donāt know itās a failure.
