Disappointing launch

@Marius-Jacobsen-Eggerud They said, that they will need some weeks to fully evaluate all the features, especially HRV tracking, which takes 3 weeks to fully work. So I guess, that’s the reason.
-
So I just chatted with support and apparently they are having “a technical issue with the shipping labels at the moment”. I asked if this issue was only for the titanium version and they answered “yes, atm its only the titanium and only in north america”. When I asked how long this will take to resolve, they answered “1-2 Days i hope”.
This honestly feels like canned answers bs to me. -
@Egika Awesome, will be nice to hear your first impressions

@craigeggleton while I understand, that one beeing dissapointed, that a product, which should be available is not and that waiting for something is never a pleasure, I don’t really understand why people are so emotionally upset about it and seemingly take this as a personal insult.
When I go to a local Porsche, BMW, Mercedes or VW store here in Germany, I am lucky if I get the modell I want, within a few days. Normaly you wait for months! And those are German cars I want to buy in a German official supplier. Nobody would say that those companies are “jokes”, Suunto can deliver a Race Steel version within days, the Titanium version seems to be delayed, but well, it’s a special modell and even then - it is like it is. One can only speculate why the Titanium modells are not available. Maybe it’s completly not Suuntos fault, but somewhere in the shipping, delivery, customs etc. process something went wrong. Being angry and in a bad mood won’t change anything besides detoriating your health an wellness

@ChrisA Thanks for bringing a bit of sanity to this thread—“omg I have to wait a few days for a new GPS watch that didn’t even exist until a few days ago” is a really puzzling response!

I have been testing the Race for some months now - so no first impressions…
I just ordered regular production watches for my family members -
@Egika Sorry, I am new to the forum - did you write somewhere what you think?

Welcome!
I have not written a review or similar. Am ready to answer questions though and have already done that in other threads
Short in short: After wearing Race on one arm and Vertical on the other for some weeks now, Vertical will soon become the watch left on the drawer at home. The screen of Race is so vivid, it is just fun to use.
Only for ski touring in the coming winter I will most likely take the Vertical, as I think that under those bright conditions the display is at least on par and the less protruding buttons are better suited for those layers of clothes, wearing it on top of the sleeve and/or glove operation. -
@Egika That’s great to hear - I have a few questions if you don’t mind. I briefly used the Garmin 255 and it is nice but the MIPS display wasn’t bright enough for me. I am excited to finally get a worthy successor of my trusty ambit 2.
- I read about speed of the device, did you notice much? It looks ok in some of the videos online.
- How is the weight and size of the watch? My wrists aren’t the largest so I was curious if it was comfortable to wear all the time esp. sleeping
- I don’t care too much for music or NFC, anything else of note that you missed about the watch?
-
After an unsuccessful attempt to buy the titanium version, I have had the steel version for two days, but I am still curious whether the two versions differ only in weight and color or whether there are also differences in GPS and OHR accuracy.

It is only weight, eMMC memory and color.
GPS is the same. OHR could be different to the titanium version being lighter and thus having less inertia… -
@Egika Are you sure that the housing material (titanium vs. steel) will not affect GPS accuracy? And the difference in weight may affect the HR reading.

yes

that’s what I wrote

@Egika i think Vertical’s GPS accuracy is slightly better than the Race? because “Simultaneous satellite systems” for Vertical is 5 and Race is 4. In challenging environment Vertical should be better than the Race
-
Ti version is now available in Sunnto store Italy, I have just bought one!
-
@babychai if this is not only a typo. let me check.
-
@ChrisA the frustration lies in that it was advertised as in stock, with 1-2 days turn around. In my case, I am in one of the markets where titanium is/was “available”. I ordered on launch day. Since then I have not received a single piece of communication of where the watch is. Suunto chat says they have no idea what the status is or any indication what is going on. I find today that my credit card has been fully charged. I reached out to Dan Suher (head of Suunto North America), he responds that the Canadian market should be good to go. Would you be satisfied?

As you mention ski touring: How will the the new crown of the Suunto Race behave when worn under a Jacket (for skiing or ski touring)?
- What is the function of the crown during a training?
- Is there a chance that the training will be interrupted or ended by accidentally pressing the button under the jacket?
- Will the crown also be locked, when locking the buttons during a training?
Thank you

Like middle button before: press to cycle the screens.
And in map view rotate to zoom the map.
Long press for options (where rotating the crown goes through the options menu)- Is there a chance that the training will be interrupted or ended by accidentally pressing the button under the jacket?
The crown button: not really. Training will only be interrupted with the top button as before. And actually the Race’s top and bottom buttons seem to be a little less protuding.
But there is a chance to change settings unintentionally by a series of long pressing, then rotating and pressing the crown again (see above).- Will the crown also be locked, when locking the buttons during a training?
Yes. Like middle button before. With button lock you can still press the crown to advance through the screens. Rotation (like in map screen) and long press will be locked.

Thank you very much.
