Suunto Wing
-
@taziden a wild guess based on your finding: at some point Motorola had earphones with a built-in heart-rate monitor. So maybe something in this area?

Guess who’s got a new suunto device at home ??
Let’s set up the wing !!Very nice packaging, you want to take your time to open it !
Here is my feedback (I’ll update it among use)
- very easy to set up and to update
- the charging base is small and well designed
- Head movements to control work pretty well !
- very discret in all black (plus I have lot of hair to cover them !)
- red led lights are probably more a “design” thing. I wouldn’t trust them for my security at night (wasn’t expecting something powefull)
- calls quality Is good, mics seems to work well according to my correspondants
- double BT pairing is cool. Autonomy seems very good as announced
This is my first bone conductors headphones (I usually use airpods), so the points below are directly linked to my “discovery” of such headphones :
- the sound quality is “OK”, but not more. There is no comparison with my airpods (but I knew what “not to expect”). It’s a bit “deaf” and not very defined. But again, no “bad surprise” for me. But I encourage anyone who intend buying such headphones not to expect too much, especially if you are a bit “audiophile”. With jaw wide open the sound is “clearier” ; jaw bones position has huge impact on sound restitution
- seems quit “heavy” VS my airpods => will have to test when running. Could be probably a bit disturbing at the beginning. But they’re confortable. => after my first real “trail running test”, I can confirm they are very confortable to wear. The quality of sound while exercising is really ok for what I wanted : listening to music AND to what’s around
- moving your jaws causes sounds lowering (seems quite logical considering bones movement). you don’t want to use them while chewing a gum !
- when pushing the volume up you can really feel the vibrations. Curious to see if it will have some kind of “massage” effect !
- capacity to hear what’s around you is awesome (that is what I was expecting and is the main reason/need that made me purchase)
- bike test : that’s great ! Very glad I can hear what’s around.
To be continued, need to test during activity.
(Questions not aswered yet : as there is no indicator that device is ON, is there an auto turn off ?)
Not disappointed, I had read a few reviews about such headphones and knew weaknesses.
After first real tests while exercising (trail running and cycling), I’m happy with the Wing. Sound is OK while exercising, it’s confortable and the battery life seems really good as announced.
[edit] since launch I’ve been using the wings a lot. They’re now my favorite for sport, mainly trail running : they don’t move, are very confortable, and sound is ok. Head control is awesome.
At home they also have replaced my AirPods for phone calls or teams meeting.
I still keep my AirPods when I want to be more isolated and to listen to music at home.
Very satisfied ! -
Ordered my SW yesterday, and I received my shipping notification today, estimated delivery tomorrow
-
Just received the Wing. Will test it this evening.
I just want to share the great effort on packaging made by Suunto . It is just too beautiful you even don’t want to open it
-
Got mine today… updating the firmware
-
The Wing feels good while wearing, and the sound quality is good in my opinion. Just can‘t wait to do a run with them… but unfortunately I have a bad cold since several day, and I‘m traveling due to a further education… next week I will train with them!
-
Mine will be delivered today, and how is the weather forecast? Yeah, right, pouring rain. Maybe test it today also for water resistancy…
@SuperFlo75 Get well soon…
-
@jthomi
of course, Suunto deliver testing weather too -
@sartoric Yes, but i tested them today in dry conditions. And I am a happy Wing owner.
Yes, sure, the sound is not like with in-ears, but sound is great enough for me to enjoy music and podcasts. Sure, wind noise is a problem, but it was the same with my old in-ears. I´m really happy with them. With helmet and glasses on I almost forgot wearing them. And I could still hear the ground noise from leaves and gravel. Just great.
-
Now I could test my SW for some days, and I can say I like it! Nice for doing sports like running, and they do what they should do. They are not good for lying in the bed because of the neckband, but for relaxing I have my Jabras 🤩

Small feedback about using Suunto Wing when cycling:
-
Very good fit even with helmet;
-
Sound is good except when strong headwind and/or going downhill at speed above 40 km/h
-
-
Initial feedback after a few days of playing around and the first longer bike ride. As I have used no-name-bone conduct headphones I will compare the Wings with them.
- the sound of the wings is significantly better, clearer, more bass, louder than the no-name-headphones
- the fit seems to be perfect for me (rather big head, wearing glasses), while my wife (smaller head, no glasses) wanted to get rid of the Wings after a few seconds, as it was to uncomfortable (too tight)
- head gestures work like a charm, really great while riding the bike. I was not able to trigger reactions while bobbing the head or looking over the shoulder etc … and yes, it would be great to have more gestures
- wind noise is a little lower with the Wings, even and especially when going faster than 40 km/h or with heavy wind, probably due to the different form factor in quite some details
- the build quality is much better, but the price is too … fortunately the price I had to pay was reduced
Current rating
- great buy, really recommended
- more gestures would be welcome
- internal storage and IP68, as the no name model offers, in order to use it when swimming, would be nice

Today my wing did a software update… I saw it after my after work run… just installed, but not tested yet. The app talked about some improvements… no new functionality
