Recording while paused

Normally my activities don’t include a pause and if they do, it is stationary. Today was different. We went cycling (navigating a route) and had a lunch break where I paused the watch. After the lunch we had a small walk where the watch was still paused.
Suddenly I got the “off route” notification which made me wonder if the watch was still recording even while paused.
When we returned at the bikes an I resumed the activity, I notices the watch did record the walk on the map, but didn’t add any extra distance.
When the activity ended and synced to Suunto App, the walk wasn’t visible.Is this expected behaviour or should the watch stop recording while paused? Also to conserve battery.

I think it’s by design. if the watch would pause satellite reception a waiting period would be required when re-starting the activity again.
pauses can be very brief, like at a traffic light with auto pause enabled and dropping satellite connection wouldn’t make sense IMO -
@freeheeler Makes sense, altough Suunto could distinguish auto-pause from manual pause and handle it differently.
