Long distance Bicycle route

hi,
I want to use the watch with Suunto bike mount for map navigation on multi day bike packing trip.
Did some testing but i did not manage to get a battery saving set up in a way that just GPSis ON, Navigation is ON, without recording of anything, screen returns to black untill route info is wanted by a press on. Button ( or touch the screen).Seems the screen stays always on. On segment that is not necessary for many kilometers
Any recommendations for the most battery friendly setup?
