One thing I’ve grown to like on a few competitor watches is the raise to wake functionality during an activity when display timeout is active.

Suunto clearly has the algorithm pretty dialed in now so request:

In activity settings when display timeout is set to yes, allow toggle between button press or raise to wake.

Always carry a flaggon of whiskey for snakebite; and furthermore, always carry a small snake.

@stromdiddily it would be really hard to measure the battery there and have an offering for you

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos how do you measure it now with button press as the waking function?

I’m probably way in the minority here but on base runs where I don’t need nav, I use the display timeout feature pretty much always to save on battery.

I have never used this feature where is it found display timeout? So what happens the screen goes black while excercise until you press button ?

@gone-troppo You have to use the custom battery mode.
The screen goes off after a few seconds of button inactivity and turns back on once you press a button again.

@surfboomerang that actually drove me nuts on a recent ultra. Every time I wanted to check my pace etc I had to press a button, which I’m sure resulted in losing an hour due to pause being activated (not sure how I actually did that) and me not realising it! Good thing I had another watch on my other wrist at the time which had no such problems (although it used a LOT more battery than my S9B).

So how do I turn off that feature on the S9b? Despite using Performance battery mode, instead of “Good” the screen still timed out quickly. I’ll have to investigate this further as I much prefer the Suunto over my other watch.

@Jeffrey-Tillack are you sure you selected performance mode? There is no option to set the GPS to “good” in that mode. Neither is enabling the display timeout setting.
In performance mode, the display should stay on all the time.

@Jeffrey-Tillack I just finished a 100 mile ultra, ran through the night and did not have this issue. I was in Performance mode. You must have a custom mode or in some other mode than performance. Unless you are in a 200 mile or longer ultra there is no reason to limit display options. Battery was lower than expected, had one S+ running and consumed 58% in 34h with estimated battery of 51h. There was very little sun during this race.

Ahh, see this was for baro. The 9 baro was in Endurance mode uses screen time out. The battery will not survive more than 20-25h. Time for a Vertical! The above was for Vertical.

@Brad_Olwin well done on that race! Yes I had trail running mode on, but changed the battery setting to performance. (It was set to good) I thought it should then come on every time I raised my wrist?

The Baro was more accurate in altitude and distance by a small amount too. It’s a great watch. But yeah, that Vertical keeps calling me…
