Suunto Beta Release for Suunto 9 Peak Pro, Suunto 9 Peak, Suunto 9 Baro, Suunto 9 and Suunto 5 Peak
-
Can anyone explain the differences seen on an S9P between the latest official version and this beta?
-
@Frederick-Rochette the release notes are in the first post, if you happened to miss them.
I’m on Suunto 9 (non-peak), but additions seem to be the same, so I can share my experience:
Raise to wake is now either both in daily mode and exercise, or in neither. This is not very useful for me.
Contrast and fonts may appear to be slightly better, but this could also very well be due to me knowing that contrast should have been improved haha. I tried comparing with another S9B, but could barely spot a difference.
Strava segments are nice for strava users, but I don’t have a premium account, so couldn’t test.Pretty much it, my watch wasn’t crashing before and it isn’t now. Overall performance is as before also.

Hi Is there a chance that the option to illuminate the dial when raising your hand during training will return? I miss this.
-
@DMytro Thanks a lot! I saw the release note but wanted some feedback on how it looked on the watch.
I’m not really interested but I’ve never found how to use the strava segments on suunto, even though I have a premium account… I don’t know if I’m the only one in this situation.
Thanks for the feedback! -
@Frederick-Rochette I think previously you couldn’t use them, now you can.
-
@DMytro Thanks for the feedback.
I don’t see the point in upgrading my S9P, I will use the old firmware. -
@Stas-Varazhbit there is a ton of bug fixing, so please UPDATE your firmware next week or whenever the beta reaches production.
-
@isazi I like almost everything about the current firmware. I’ve been waiting a long time for RTW to be fixed and if RTW will work as reported, I’m not happy with it. And if I don’t know what bugs have been fixed, it makes me wary.
-
@isazi Unfortunately, this upgrade is really a downgrade for me when it comes to backlight of S9… I’d probably rather have bugs than this. If the current beta backlight implementation makes it to production, I will downgrade to the previous stable version I really don’t understand why this had to be changed…
-
@inkognito I believe that raise-to-wake saves a ton of battery compares with always on.
-
@Stas-Varazhbit
I would always update when an update is available. watches are less important, but for some devices it’s security relevant. I have the habit to update always as it doesn’t make sense to me to use outdated firmware or OS… …maybe I have tendencies to be an early-ish adapter -
@isazi unless you had neither turned on in daily mode, which was my setting.

@Ilya-Sul yep, nice addition, but did you notice any battery life impact? I have lost 20% during 1 day and 8 hours with 1h30m of activity only.
Similar experience on my end on the 9PP. I lost around 20% over 14 hours (7 PM to 9 AM):
- Only recorded one 30 minute walk during this time, no S+ used.
- I have all widgets active except NOTIFICATION and ACTIVITY
- RTW is on, but sleep DND would have been active overnight
- 24/7 HR is on
- Sleep tracking is on with SpO2
- 1 alarm in the morning
-
@isazi I agree. The problems are somewhere else:
- we have lost the “exercise only” option for raise to wake
- Low backlight is now unnecessarily bright

@Umer-Javed
After any FW update, battery calibration may be necessary for the gauge to be reliable. Wait a full discharge/recharge first I would say. -
I’m S9P user, and I have updated, just because I love to test new things.
Unfortunately I haven’t find anything new except wake on raise that is working fine for me and small UI changes (font?, darker colors, more contrast…) I was expecting something more, like guide alerts…Anyway, no problem with the beta
@isazi do you know which bugs are corrected in the beta FW?

The option: “backlight during activity” has disappeared -

Apparently this update has decalibrated my battery a little. When I started activity, it said I have 6h worth of charge, after 20m I finished. Next time I looked at my watch, within 10m, it showed empty battery screen.
I could be wrong about battery estimate tho, so if it’s the only occurrence, you may as well ignore my comment. -
@Thierry-Forget the same happened to me. Is there a way to reconnect to Strava?
