Screen S5P vs S9PP
-
@ADidier
if I don’t forget I can ask my sons friend next time he visits us if I can take comparison pics with his 5peak.I assume you would like to double check if the 9PP is worth the extra money, based on readability of the screen?
-
@freeheeler Exactly, thank you.
-
I read that the screen of the S5P is made of plastic and not glass. Can someone confirm this information, because I’m afraid of scratches.
-
@ADidier Suunto’s product page has it all
https://www.suunto.com/en-au/Products/sports-watches/suunto-5-peak/suunto-5-peak-all-black/Yes, S5P is no sapphire but some synthetic material which are more prone to scratches
-
@ADidier Not the greatest quality shots, but here you go!
9PP on the left, 5P on the right
-
thank you very much
I don’t feel like there’s a big difference, but I do notice that the glass on the S5P scratches easily.
-
@ADidier
if you reduce the watch to the readability I think the difference isn’t huge.
it depends on your other requirements for a watch. did you compare the watch features on the page?edit:
one thing I forgot to mention: the pro has an improved font compared to its predecessors. I’ve noticed better readability of S9PP compared to S9P when running, even with 7 datafields. -
@ADidier I’m primarily a trail runner, and I can say that screen visibility in that kind of bouncy/uneven environment was far better on thr 9PP! The 0.1" inch size difference was significant, and just the fonts and brightness have helped greatly.
On pavement, they are more balanced in terms of visibility, since there’s less jostling around during an activity.
9PP is certainly better build quality, and the 5P (without a barometer) has some serious elevation shortfalls on trails, which impacts measured distances. Again, on pavement, they measure out fairly similar in terms of accuracy.

@TrailEyes @freeheeler Thank you very much for your experiences. I have practiced Trail until now but a nasty injury forced me to go to rowing, cycling, swimming pool and just a little road. I hope to resume hiking in the near future.
-
@ADidier
fast and good recoveryI’ve bought my S9B after an injury and started (some kind of) trail running… it was not the plan to buy watches with injuries hope it remains like that!
-
Hello @TrailEyes,
Could you take some photos of the activity screens (3 - 4 - 5 Fields - navigation), between S5P vs S9PP?
Thanks
