Future S9 firmware wishlist summary
-
The S9 is a very solid platform in my humble opinion, and aside from these recent very irritating let-downs it could be a great watch.
If I had any say I would take a step back and give a ‘minimalist’ option for those of us who value reliability over ‘gimmicks’. Even better would be to give users a bit more freedom - Similar to what Garmin does with the open source stuff. I bet there would be way better face options - to mention just one example - if that was the case.
-
@ADHDMonkey
reducing “gimmicks” and adding more faces is contradictory, no?
some users have downgraded the firmware to the previous one and achieved more stability. maybe that would be an option while we wait for a further update? -
@freeheeler I did not say ‘more’ faces, I said ‘better’ faces. An improved and modern interface is not a gimmick in my book.
What do I find contradictory is having to DOWNGRADE the FW to get better performance (I can’t even type that without giggling to myself ).
Can you point me to official Suunto documentation that states that it is ok for users to downgrade the FW please?
I’ve read on this forum that some people have had negative experiences with that and I don’t want to make things even worse.
-
@ADHDMonkey Downgrading is not supported.
- Soft reset.
- Factory reset.
- Customer service to repair.
I think these are the obvious steps.
-
Is there any particular reason why there’s no option to select GPS+Glonass+Galileo?
-
@ADHDMonkey yes, the chipset only supports GPS+X, newer chipsets support different configurations, such as using all GNSS systems at the same time.
-
Still hoping for a simple flash light triggered by a long press of one of the hard buttons. Turn the face all white, brightness 100%

Simple but nice idea!

I would like for the VO2Max algorithm to take into account the height difference or other environmental changes. For example I ocationally visit my grandparents village +1200m height from the place I live and the first days to week or more my VO2max drops a couple of points and fluctuates a lot until it stabilizes.
-
@Hristijan-Petreski I work at 1700m and over or at 3000m almost every weekend if I am home. My VO2Max is reported about 5-8 ml/kg/min lower on the watch than on a test. Not terribly bad.
-
I think this was mentioned (and discussed in the past), but I would like to see an option to display all of the available parameters/values that the watch knows about (sunset/sunrise, altitude, temperature, HR, number of steps, etc.). All of them are available on some of the screens, but I don’t think any watch faces includes all of them (and rightly so).
I would make it accessible from the Settings or Shortcuts menu. -
It’s probably been asked for at some point but it would be great if the amount of screens you can add and configure for an activity would be higher. I also have a Garmin Enduro and that doesn’t have a maximum number of screens, you can setup as few or as many as you want; I’d really like to have the option of having more than only 2 or 3 available
-
@MiniForklift going this way - I’d like to be able to disable the vertical navigation as I very rarely use it and have an option to disable an S+ screen. This sounds weird but when using certain S+ apps like ie Burner I see no need to have the data displayed during the run. I’d rather have less screens to cycle as there’s no way to cycle back, only forward.
-
I use the Dual time function as I travel quite a bit, so I’ll often alternate between a few different time zones/countries
Any possibility of having the city that it’s set to displayed rather than the ‘Dual time’ that’s currently shown? Seems like only a small change but it would be much more helpful
-
@MiniForklift
The “old” Spartan firmware shows the zone.I’m using it too since always but also as digits representation of the current time
-
@MiniForklift On S9B it shows a “globe” as indication of the “world time”. The city idea went away a few firmware updates ago and it was replaced by the UTC +/- offset. I liked the “city” idea better, because it kept track of various daylight changes in different zones. Now you have to know when the time changes in the other time zone and adjust it manually.

https://forum.suunto.com/topic/7782/s9b-lock-screen-option-again/12
So I compare new Suunto Vertical watch vs Suunto 9 Baro and SVertical has option “Touch screen lock” (see pic) and it has also only 3 buttons. Then I would like to really kindly ask for option “Touch screen lock” in time mode please
-
@vio112 I think @freeheeler will appreciate that in a way or another if I am not mistaken
-
This must be a mistake, the Vertical does not have a lock button outside of activity.
